IT Engineer

LangChain is seeking an early member for its IT team in San Francisco to establish the foundation of IT. This role involves shaping IT strategy, building scalable systems, and supporting a global team. The ideal candidate has startup experience, thrives in ambiguity, and is passionate about problem-solving. Responsibilities include infrastructure, automation, security, identity management, and core IT operations, ensuring efficient and secure tech for rapid growth.

Must Have

• Build and maintain IT infrastructure and tech stack.
• Drive automation initiatives.
• Own identity strategy and access controls.
• Administer Mac fleet using Kandji MDM.
• Provide global employee IT support.
• Administer and optimize SaaS stack.
• Deliver new hire onboarding experiences.
• 4+ years of experience in IT engineering and systems administration.
• Deep proficiency with Okta and Okta Workflows.
• Fluency in Python, JavaScript, or similar for scripting and automation.
• Comfortable with REST APIs, webhooks, and API authentication methods.
• Experience with IaC using Terraform.
• Strong experience with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, ChatGPT.
• Solid understanding of MDM platforms.
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, switching, wireless, LAN/WAN).

We are seeking an early member of our IT team to join us and help establish the foundation of IT. You'll have the opportunity to shape our IT strategy and practices from the ground up. What You'll Do

Infrastructure & Automation

• Build and maintain our IT infrastructure and tech stack that scales with rapid growth
• Drive automation initiatives to reduce toil and improve efficiency using scripts, APIs, and workflow tools
• Implement monitoring and documentation practices that enable operational excellence

Security & Identity Management

• Own our identity strategy, implementing secure, scalable access controls following the principle of least privilege
• Administer Mac fleet using Kandji MDM with focus on security, compliance, and user experience
• Identify and implement security enhancements across our SaaS stack
• Partner with our Security team to drive improvement of our enterprise security posture

Core IT Operations

• Provide support to employees globally across hardware, software, networking, and IT tools
• Administer and optimize our SaaS stack, managing provisioning, access controls, and lifecycle management
• Deliver great onboarding experiences for new hires, ensuring they have the right hardware, access, and setup so they can be productive from day one

How to be successful in this role

• 4+ years of experience in IT engineering and systems administration
• Deep proficiency with Okta and Okta Workflows
• Fluency in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, JavaScript, or similar) with demonstrated ability to write production-quality scripts and automation
• Versed in the us of REST APIs, webhooks, and API authentication methods; you should be comfortable reading API documentation and building integrations between systems
• Demonstrated ability to build meaningful automations that reduce manual work and improve IT operations
• Experience with IaC using Terraform to manage and provision IT infrastructure and applications
• Strong experience with a modern tech stack that includes Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, ChatGPT
• Solid understanding of MDM platforms
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, switching, wireless, LAN/WAN)

Actual compensation will vary based on role, level, and location. For team members in the EU and UK, we provide locally competitive benefits aligned with regional norms and regulations.
