About the role

As a Corporate Network Engineer on Anthropic's IT Engineering team, you'll help establish and expand the network infrastructure that enables our teams to advance AI safety research and development. This is an opportunity to shape the foundation of our corporate network architecture as we scale, building reliable and secure connectivity solutions for our growing global presence.

You'll focus primarily on designing and operating corporate office network infrastructure, creating the physical and wireless environments where our staff collaborate. As we expand our facilities and headcount, your work will directly enable productive, secure workspaces that support both in-person collaboration and hybrid work models.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement corporate office network infrastructure from the ground up, including wired and wireless networks, across multiple locations
  • Establish network standards, best practices, and architectural patterns that will scale with our rapid growth
  • Build and maintain high-performance wireless networks that support dense user environments and diverse device requirements
  • Develop automation tools and monitoring solutions to ensure network reliability and rapid issue resolution
  • Partner with Facilities and Security teams to plan and integrate network infrastructure into new office buildouts and expansions
  • Manage vendor relationships, oversee circuit procurement, and handle equipment lifecycle planning
  • Create comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and knowledge bases for network operations
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide network support and incident response
  • Implement network security controls including segmentation, access control, and guest network isolation
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure seamless connectivity between office networks and cloud resources

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have 5+ years of experience designing and operating enterprise networks, with focus on corporate/office environments
  • Are proficient with firewall management, routing protocols, VLANs, and layer 2/3 switching technologies
  • Have hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting enterprise wireless networks at scale
  • Have experience with network configuration automation
  • Understand physical network infrastructure including structured cabling standards, IDF/MDF design, and equipment installation
  • Have experience with network security best practices including segmentation, 802.1X, and firewall policies
  • Are comfortable with Linux/Unix systems and network troubleshooting tools
  • Can manage multiple projects simultaneously while working with facilities teams, contractors, and vendors
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Are excited about building foundational infrastructure for a rapidly growing organization
  • Care about the societal impacts of your work and Anthropic's mission to build safe AI systems

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience establishing network infrastructure and standards at high-growth companies
  • Background in wireless site surveys, capacity planning, and RF design
  • Knowledge of building automation and IoT network requirements
  • Familiarity with identity-based network access control solutions
  • Understanding of compliance requirements for network infrastructure (SOC2, ISO 27001)
  • Experience with network observability and platforms
  • Track record of successful office buildouts and network migrations
  • Certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, CWNA/CWDP, or equivalent
  • Experience with AV over IP solutions

Additional Requirements

  • This position will require up to 8 weeks of domestic and international travel to help with new office build outs. There is also a 4 day/week in office expectation in our San Francisco office.

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
