Job Description

As a Maintenance Supervisor, you will lead by example—taking ownership of equipment reliability and team performance. You’ll plan and oversee maintenance activities, respond swiftly to breakdowns, and ensure safety standards are met. Your technical expertise and leadership will reduce downtime, support continuous improvement, and create a positive, productive environment where your team can thrive. You will lead and coordinate the maintenance team, oversee machinery maintenance, minimise production downtime, conduct planned preventative maintenance, ensure health and safety compliance, maintain housekeeping, and support team training.
Good To Have:
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems is advantageous.
  • Mechanical understanding of gearboxes, pumps, and pneumatics is beneficial.
Must Have:
  • Proven experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Apprentice trained and ideally electrically qualified (minimum requirement).
  • Strong understanding of engineering diagrams, control circuits, and schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with DC/AC drives, 3-phase motors, electrical hoists, and PLC systems.
  • Familiarity with safety circuits, sensors, inverters, relays, and speed control systems.

Who will you be working with?

A Division of Wabtec UK Ltd, Northampton-based firm Bearward Engineering manufactures radiators for the power generation industry and is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Supervisor.

How will you make a difference?

As a Maintenance Supervisor, you will lead by example—taking ownership of equipment reliability and team performance. You’ll plan and oversee maintenance activities, respond swiftly to breakdowns, and ensure safety standards are met. Your technical expertise and leadership will reduce downtime, support continuous improvement, and create a positive, productive environment where your team can thrive.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Lead and coordinate the maintenance team to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Oversee the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all machinery used in the manufacturing process.
  • Minimise production downtime through effective planning and rapid response to breakdowns.
  • Conduct and delegate planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and equipment care.
  • Support training and development of team members.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Proven experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Apprentice trained and ideally electrically qualified (minimum requirement).
