Job Description

The Manager, Engineering - Cloud role at Wind River involves leading a QA team to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions. Must have:
  • 10+ years of experience in software QA.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in automation frameworks (Selenium, Appium, Cypress).
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (Java, Python, JavaScript).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC.
Good to have:
  • Experience with performance and security testing tools.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Certification in ISTQB or equivalent QA credentials.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Manager – Software Quality Assurance (SW QA) to lead our QA teams in ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and team leadership. This role requires a strategic thinker who can drive quality initiatives, mentor team members, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality and efficiency.

We're creating a critical system to speed the development of cloud and embedded connected intelligent systems. Just a few examples could be autonomous cars, warehouse robots, or even drones.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director of Engineering and will lead and continue to build a highly skilled and compassionate verification and validation team delivering world-class technology solutions to both internal and external customers. This will include building tools and technologies across a complete analytics-driven DevSecOps platform, pioneering many new industry-leading capabilities.

 

 

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Process Improvement:

  • Define and implement QA strategies, processes, and best practices to ensure software reliability and scalability.
  • Establish and drive quality metrics, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms for continuous improvement.
  • Advocate for test automation and DevOps practices to streamline release cycles.

Team Leadership & Mentoring:

  • Lead and mentor a team of QA engineers, providing guidance on best practices, career development, and technical skills.
  • Foster a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous learning within the QA team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage resource planning to ensure team efficiency.

Test Planning & Execution:

  • Oversee the design, development, and execution of test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage for functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
  • Implement automated testing solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce manual efforts.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with development, product management, and customer support teams to align QA efforts with business goals.
  • Participate in sprint planning, release management, and defect triage meetings.
  • Communicate QA status, risks, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to software releases and deployments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on defects and drive continuous improvement initiative

 

ABOUT YOU

 

Core Competencies & Demonstrated Success

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Appium, Cypress) and test management tools.
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript) for test automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-based testing platforms.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with performance and security testing tools.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Certification in ISTQB, CSTE, or equivalent QA credentials
