Job Summary
Sphere is seeking a Post Production Manager for its Burbank, CA studio to oversee post-production tasks for residencies, events, experiences, and special projects. This role ensures consistent execution across Sphere Studios' diverse work, requiring deep knowledge of the Sphere pipeline and evolving post processes. The manager will handle multiple concurrent projects, manage schedules, budgets, and deliverables, and act as the primary contact for post-production processes, including IO, lab, editorial, VFX, finishing, and deliverables teams. They will also manage freelance talent and external vendors.
Must Have
- Oversee post tasks for Sphere residencies, events, experiences and special projects
- Ensure consistency in execution across the broad spectrum of work produced by Sphere Studios
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the Sphere pipeline and multiple evolving post processes
- Demonstrate a proven track record and ability to apply industry-leading post & VFX processes in new and inventive ways
- Manage the post production phase of multiple concurrent projects
- Oversee post schedules, budgets and deliverables to ensure timely and expected outcomes
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned projects
- Oversee the post processes between IO, lab, editorial, VFX, finishing and deliverables teams
- Follow and enforce efficient post workflows
- Provide real time project feedback to pipeline teams for future improvements
- Act as beta tester for new post processes and tools
- Manage, schedule and task freelance talent pool for projects
- Make strategic recommendations to senior post staff on timing of freelance project hires
- Ensure project hires are onboarded/offboarded efficiently and setup for success
- Work with finance to ensure all timecard approvals are routed correctly
- Manage external post vendors as needed
- Review vendor bids and scopes of work
- Ensure quality, timelines and budgets are consistently met
- Lead effort to archive project files and final versions in accordance with studio policy
- Follow through from early development to delivery on smaller projects
- Four to five years of experience working in post-production or VFX
- Served as a project lead for Post Production or VFX on high-end films, TV productions or in a facilities environment
- Proven track record managing multiple fast-paced projects in a large organization
- Deep knowledge of Post processes including ingest, cataloging/archiving, editing, visual effects, motion graphics, audio, color, QC and show programming and delivery
- Familiarization with current trends and workflows across the industry for multi-camera array and high-resolution capture, HDR, VFX, motion graphics, and spatial audio
- Experience with Shot Grid, Post Cal, Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with common DCC’s, NLE’s and real-time engine toolsets

The Post Production Manager will primarily oversee post tasks for Sphere residencies, events, experiences and special projects, ensuring consistency in execution across the broad spectrum of work produced by Sphere Studios. This role requires a deep knowledge and understanding of the Sphere pipeline and multiple evolving post processes. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a proven track record and ability to apply industry-leading post & VFX processes in new and inventive ways, within a fast-moving cutting-edge environment.
What will you do?
- Manage the post production phase of multiple concurrent projects, overseeing post schedules, budgets and deliverables to ensure timely and expected outcomes.
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned projects, overseeing the post processes between IO, lab, editorial, VFX, finishing and deliverables teams.
- In conjunction with the project Producer and senior Post staff, follow and enforce efficient post workflows, providing real time project feedback to pipeline teams for future improvements. Act as beta tester for new post processes and tools.
- Manage, schedule and task freelance talent pool for projects, including project Post Coordinators, creative/assistant/VFX editors, colorists and conform artists.
- Make strategic recommendations to senior Post staff on timing of freelance project hires.
- In conjunction with the Senior Post Department Manager, ensure project hires are onboarded/offboarded efficiently and setup for success. Work with finance to ensure all timecard approvals are routed correctly.
- Manage external post vendors as needed, reviewing vendor bids and scopes of work, ensuring quality, timelines and budgets are consistently met.
- After project delivery, lead effort to archive project files and final versions in accordance with studio policy.
- Follow through from early development to delivery on smaller projects that are not large enough to require a dedicated management team.
What do you need to succeed?
- Four to five years of experience working in post-production or VFX.
- Track record of leading with Empathy and Kindness.
- Served as a project lead for Post Production or VFX on high-end films, TV productions or in a facilities environment.
- Proven track record managing multiple fast-paced projects in a large organization.
- Deep knowledge of Post processes including ingest, cataloging/archiving, editing, visual effects, motion graphics, audio, color, QC and show programming and delivery.
- Familiarization with current trends and workflows across the industry for multi-camera array and high-resolution capture, HDR, VFX, motion graphics, and spatial audio.
- Excellent problem solving, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Shot Grid, Post Cal, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with common DCC’s, NLE’s and real-time engine toolsets.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines while maintaining team cohesion.
