Job Summary
abc27 (WHTM) is seeking a Meteorologist III to join its weather team in the Harrisburg-Lebanon-Lancaster-York market. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of weather and climate, a composed on-air demeanor, and the ability to engage the community across all platforms, including broadcast, streaming, and social media. Responsibilities include producing and presenting weather reports, ensuring journalistic integrity, and responding to severe weather events.
Must Have
- Produce and present weather reports for all broadcast & digital platforms.
- Ensure weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Write and deliver weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
- Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events.
- Work closely with weather & news teams for comprehensive coverage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Superior on-air presence.
- Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift, including weekends, overnights, and holidays.
Good to Have
- On-air experience in weather reporting/anchoring.
- Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
- Ability to identify developmental needs and coach/mentor others.
- Participate in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Regularly produce streaming video content for the station's OTT digital platform.
- Write text-based digital stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
- Interact professionally with viewers and users on social media sites.

Strong candidates will possess a deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for weather and climate in equal measure, a clear and composed on-air demeanor, and an affinity for reaching our community on all platforms, including broadcast television, streaming digital video, social media, and more.
- Produces and presents weather reports for all broadcast & digital platforms.
- Ensures that all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Writes and delivers weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
- Assists in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content.
- Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
- Works closely with the weather & news teams to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Regularly produces streaming video content for the station's over the top (OTT) digital platform.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Writes text-based digital stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
- Interacts with viewers and users professionally on social media sites.
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
- On-air experience in weather reporting/anchoring strongly preferred.
- Superior on-air presence.
- Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
