Motorola Solutions is seeking a Presale Systems Engineer to partner with customers and sales teams to deliver end-to-end solutions for the US Federal Government Civilian and Law Enforcement customer base. This role involves owning the technical design of solutions, focusing on mission-critical technologies such as public safety networks, advanced mobile devices, command and control software, and video solutions. Responsibilities include customer requirements discovery, technology strategy development, system architecture design, proposal development, and technical presentations. The ideal candidate needs a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, must be a U.S. Citizen, possess strong communication skills, and have a creative, resourceful approach.

Job Description

The Presale Systems Engineer partners closely with customers and the sales team, delivering customer-driven, world-class, leading-edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder, government, and non first responder customers within the US Federal Government Civilian and Law Enforcement customer base. Working within a team of sales, service, engineering, and technical support resources, the Presale Systems Engineer is the overall owner of a solution’s technical design, ensuring we meet our customers’ needs.

The engineering team supports the entire ecosystem and concentrates on the following mission-critical technologies at various levels of complexity:

  • Public safety grade mobile voice and data networks

  • Advanced mobile devices

  • Public safety mobile broadband networks and devices

  • Integrated command and control software

  • Mobile and fixed video solutions

Typical scope of responsibilities may include the following:

  • Customer requirements discovery

  • Technology strategy development

  • End-to-end system architecture design

  • Proposal development

  • Internal and external technical presentations

  • Equipment and software solution demos, including configuration and testing

The ideal candidate has the following skills and capabilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required, preferably Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • A positive attitude with a can-do first approach that enables you to be creative, resourceful and deliver results

  • Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences and makes them understandable

  • Willingness to think out of the box and challenge the status quo

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • General knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures - both public and private (e.g. APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 3GPP 4G/5G, FirstNet/Frontline) - highly desirable

  • General knowledge of Cloud (FedRAMP), IP networking architecture, protocols and security highly desirable

  • Knowledge of RF coverage predictions, microwave design, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets an asset

  • Ability to work in the Linthicum Heights, MD, office a minimum of 3 days a week

  • Travel Expected < 25%

  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
