Rolls-Royce is seeking a Principal Control System Engineer to join a global, multi-disciplinary team working on flagship programs. This role involves owning assigned control system functions and interfaces, providing technical guidance to a small team, and ensuring technical outcomes meet quality standards. The engineer will support full life cycle development, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with global engineering communities. Responsibilities include developing electrical, electronics, and mechatronics control system safety work products, establishing technical capability standards, and resolving complex problems.
Must have:
  • Gas turbine engine, propulsion, or electrical control system experience
  • 10+ years of experience in control system design
  • Experience with Requirements definition
  • Experience with systems integration and systems design
  • Development of model-based systems engineering with digital engineering toolsets (MATLAB, Simulink and/or similar)
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, and robust design tools and techniques coupled with the latest model-centric development approaches
  • Experience with developing safety-critical software
  • Experience with System certification of a regulated produce
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of product development engineering experience, OR Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of product development engineering experience, OR PhD in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with development of embedded, software intensive, systems

As a , you will be the owner of assigned control system functions and interfaces. You will be responsible for providing technical guidance, counsel, and direction to a small team of engineers to ensure technical outcomes are delivered to appropriate standards and quality while working with a global engineering community to identify areas for collaboration and knowledge exchange. You will support full life cycle development and mentor junior engineers on processes, tools, and technical solutions. In this role, you will have the opportunity to travel up to 20% between sites and up to 10% other travel.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Collaborate with other teams and customers to develop electrical, electronics and mechatronics control system safety work products suchs as: System Safety and Reliability Assessment, Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) or Common Cause Analysis (CCA)
  • Work with a cross-functional team to establish the highest standards of technical capability, quality, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Provide and support engineering and process guidance, training and create documentation
  • Prepare and review engineering work products for technical documentation, quality, completeness
  • Resolve complex problems through the application of acquired technical experience and knowledge
  • Develop and communicate complex technical ideas and information in a concise and logical way
