Job Description

The Principal Creative provides creative direction and guides work across campaigns, events, flagship content, and storytelling for YouVersion. This role drives high-level creative decisions, coaches other creative decision-makers, and models team values. They develop the creative vision, oversee film and video production, and build brand and style guides to unify YouVersion's visual and emotional voice. Collaborating with the YouVersion Team Leader, they translate vision into tangible creative outcomes, leading projects from concept to completion with excellence, championing innovation and ensuring alignment with the mission.

  • Provide unified creative guidance and approvals for campaigns, events, flagship content, and storytelling.

  • Drive the creative expression of flagship initiatives across all platforms.
  • Partner with Directors and coach senior creatives.
  • Collaborate across teams with Marketing, Donor Development, Product, and external partners.
  • Oversee execution of flagship creative work through video, photography, and beyond.
  • Lead the development of pitch decks and visual materials to communicate vision.
  • Craft and direct creative presentations.
  • Develop and communicate mood boards and design inspiration.
  • Bring strong expertise in filmmaking, large-scale directing, and production management.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems with innovation.
  • Effective at multitasking and time management to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate creative concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • Effective at process and organizational management.
  • Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others.
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing strategies, and campaign development.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret key marketing metrics and assess creative performance.
  • 6+ years of proven experience in creative leadership with a strong portfolio.
  • Expertise in design principles, creative direction, and user-centered design processes.
  • Experience with creative tools and software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma).

The Principal Creative is primarily responsible for providing creative direction and guiding the work across campaigns, events, flagship content, and storytelling. This role drives high-level creative decisions, coaches other creative decisions-makers, and models the behaviors and values of our team. The Principal Creative combines visionary direction with practical execution, developing the creative vision, overseeing film and video production, and building brand and style guides that unify the visual and emotional voice of YouVersion. This role collaborates closely with the YouVersion Team Leader(YTL) to translate high-level vision into tangible creative outcomes, leading projects from concept through completion with excellence. The Principal Creative leads through influence by championing creative excellence, inspiring innovation, and ensuring that every expression of YouVersion reflects our mission. The Principal Creative is responsible for collaborating with their YTL to cast vision, provide direction, and lead ministry efforts within their area of influence to outcomes that further Life.Church’s mission and reach people for Christ.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide unified creative guidance and approvals for campaigns, events, flagship content, and storytelling.
  • Translate high-level creative vision from the YouVersion Team Leader (YTL) into actionable strategy and execution.
  • Drive the creative expression of flagship initiatives, ensuring a unified creative identity across all platforms that connects deeply with global audiences and achieves desired outcomes.
  • Partner with Directors and coach senior creatives, raising the bar for creative decision-making across disciplines.
  • Collaborate across teams with Marketing, Donor Development, Product, and external partners to unify creative direction.
  • Strengthen contractor and partner relationships to expand creative impact.
  • Oversee execution of flagship creative work through video, photography, and beyond ensuring world-class quality and storytelling.
  • Lead the development of pitch decks and visual materials to communicate vision and inspire collaboration.
  • Craft and direct creative presentations that allow teams to see and feel the intended creative expression.
  • Develop and communicate mood boards and design inspiration that guide creative teams and contractors.
  • Bring strong expertise in filmmaking, large-scale directing, and production management to execute ambitious creative projects.
  • Provide clarity and direction for creative programming without managing daily or ongoing content(e.g., Verse of the Day, daily social media).

Skills Needed to Succeed

  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems with innovation.
  • Effective at multitasking and time management to meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate creative concepts clearly and persuasively to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
  • Effective at process and organizational management to coordinate, structure, and provide vision to projects.
  • Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others.
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing strategies, and campaign development, particularly in the digital and mobile app space.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret key marketing metrics and assess creative performance based on metrics.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6+ years of proven experience in creative leadership, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative projects, including digital, print, and video content.
  • Expertise in design principles, creative direction, and user-centered design processes.
  • Experience with creative tools and software(Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.).
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or with faith-based organizations preferred.
  • Familiarity with app development or UX/UI design principles preferred.
  • Experience working in a global, and diverse environment preferred.
