Quince is seeking a Principal Data Scientist, ML - Planning to lead the exploration, design, and implementation of data science solutions for inventory planning and allocations. This role involves developing and refining predictive models for demand forecasting and inventory optimization, leveraging advanced machine learning and optimization techniques. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, deploy ML models into production, and communicate insights to stakeholders, significantly influencing Quince's future success by optimizing inventory levels and in-stock rates.
Must have:
  • Develop and execute data science strategy for inventory and logistics planning.
  • Design and refine predictive models for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
  • Leverage advanced ML and optimization techniques for supply chain problems.
  • Deploy ML models into production, run experiments, and monitor performance.
  • Collaborate with product, business, and engineering partners.
  • Communicate insights to business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Identify data gaps and collaborate with Engineering for enhanced data tracking.
  • MS or PhD in a quantitative field (statistics, math, CS, OR).
  • 7+ years data science experience in ML, predictive modeling, optimizations, GenAI for planning.
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL.
  • Experience with model productionalization.
  • Experience with BI platforms like Looker, Tableau.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking passionate individuals who are enthusiastic about transforming the way the business operates the inventory and logistics planning. We are a centralized data science team that optimizes and automates decision making across the business, and provides valuable and actionable insights. As a Planning Data Scientist at Quince, you will lead the exploration, design, and implementation of data science solutions to optimize our inventory planning and allocations. Your work will greatly optimize our inventory level and the in stock rate across all the categories, providing you with the opportunity to significantly influence the future success of Quince.

Candidates based in the SF Bay Area will be required to work in a hybrid capacity out of our Palo Alto office, 3 days/week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). All candidates outside of that region will be able to work in a fully remote capacity. No relocation is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute the data science strategy for inventory and logistics planning, aligning with broader business goals. Identify and prioritize high-impact data-driven projects that optimize the company’s planning processes and drive operational efficiency.
  • Design, develop, and refine predictive models for demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and workforce allocation.
  • Leverage advanced machine learning and optimization techniques to solve complex supply chain and planning problems at scale.
  • Deploy the ML models into production, run experiments, and enable performance monitoring in production.
  • Collaborate across functions: Work closely with product, business, and engineering partners to initiate, develop, and deploy solutions with cross-functional support.
  • Communicate insights: Present outcomes and insights to business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Enhance data infrastructure: Identify gaps in existing data, create data product specifications, and collaborate with Engineering teams to implement enhanced data tracking.
  • Promote best practices: Partner with Analytics team members and other functions to share insights and best practices, ensuring consistency in data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Drive automation: Continuously strive for automated and production-ready solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • MS or PhD in statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, operations research or another quantitative field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a data scientist in relevant industry, with hands-on experience applying machine learning, predictive modeling, optimizations, and GenAI to optimizing inventory and logistics planning.
  • Deep knowledge in:
  • Statistical, optimization and machine learning techniques.
  • Data science libraries in a programming or scripting language (proficiency with Python and SQL)
  • Model productionalization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, etc.
  • Move fast, be a team player, and be kind.
