Job Description

The Principal Graphics Engineer will be responsible for building exciting rendering systems and features within the Bluepoint Engine. This involves collaborating with designers, artists, and programmers to design, implement, and iterate on rendering systems, optimizing rendering code, researching new rendering techniques, and mentoring engineers. They will also contribute to extending existing rendering systems to meet the needs of content teams. The role requires a strong understanding of real-time rendering techniques and the ability to manage time, self-organize, and meet deadlines.
Must have:
  • Strong C++ programming ability.
  • Expert knowledge of HLSL/PSSL.
  • Experience debugging and profiling code using Visual Studio.
  • Experience with CPU and GPU profiling tools.
  • Solid understanding of real-time rendering techniques.
  • Ability to work within performance and memory constraints.
  • Ownership experience with tools or backend systems for AAA games.
  • 7+ years of rendering programming preferred
  • Has shipped at least 2 AAA console games or equivalent experience.
Good to have:
  • DirectX or AGC/GNM experience.
  • C#, USD.
  • Experience writing tools for rendering systems.
  • Experience writing tools for rendering systems; content cookers/compilers, shader code generators, DCC plugins, visualizers, etc.
  • Experience with CPU and GPU profiling tools.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Principal Graphics Engineer position is responsible for building out exciting rendering systems and features in the Bluepoint Engine to bring our team’s vision to life.  

 

This position will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with designers, artists, and programmers, to design, implement and iterate on rendering systems.

  • Extending existing rendering systems to provide new or improved functionality to meet the needs of content teams.

  • Optimizing high and low-level rendering code for console platforms.

  • Researching new real-time rendering techniques and features.

  • Mentoring less experienced engineers and technical artists.

  • Jumping in to help where needed.

 

What craft expertise you’ll have:

  • Technology Knowledge

    • Required: Strong C++ programming ability.

    • Required: Expert knowledge of HLSL/PSSL.

    • Desired: DirectX or AGC/GNM experience.

    • Desired: C#, USD.

  • Tool Knowledge

    • Required: Visual Studio with strong experience debugging and profiling code.

    • Required: Experience with CPU and GPU profiling tools; Razor, RenderDoc, etc.

    • Desired: Maya, Houdini, Jenkins.

  • Craft Experience

    • Required: Solid understanding of real-time rendering techniques.

    • Required: Ability to work within performance and memory constraints.

    • Required: Ownership experience with tools or backend systems for AAA games in areas such as; lighting, materials, shadows, raytracing, VFX, water, atmospherics, post-effects, GPU-driven rendering, or backend abstraction & resource management.

    • Desired: Experience writing tools for rendering systems; content cookers/compilers, shader code generators, DCC plugins, visualizers, etc.

 

Other Criteria:

  • Experience

    • Degree: B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience.

    • Years of Experience: 7+ years of rendering programming preferred.

    • Required: Strong experience that allows for mentoring and growth opportunities.

    • Required: Has shipped at least 2 AAA console games or equivalent experience.

  • Additionally, you should possess

    • A proven ability to manage time, self-organize, and meet deadlines.

    • Strong communication skills.

    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

    • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.

    • A growth mindset and a positive outlook.

    • The ability to wring the last drop of performance out of any CPU or GPU.
