Rippling is building a Spend Management Platform that unifies corporate cards, bill pay, expenses, travel, and global spend. As Product Design Director for Spend, you’ll set the vision and quality bar for this platform, creating powerful yet intuitive experiences, unifying fragmented workflows, designing for global scale, and mentoring a world-class design team.
Must Have:
  • 8+ years of product design experience, including 5+ years managing and leading design teams
  • A track record of bringing relentless customer focus to high-impact projects and driving strategic business outcomes through design
  • Strong systems thinking, with experience leading the design of integrated suites or ecosystems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build alignment and influence stakeholders from individual contributors to executives
  • Deep collaboration experience with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional partners to drive both strategy and execution
  • Proven success hiring, leading, and scaling design teams at both startups and established companies
  • A history of developing designers and helping them grow to do the best work of their careers

Employees need to book travel, pay vendors, and get reimbursed. Finance teams need visibility, control, and compliance without slowing people down. Most tools force a compromise between power and usability.

Rippling is building a Spend Management Platform that refuses that tradeoff. Corporate cards, bill pay, expenses, travel, and global spend all live in one product, connected to the HR and payroll system that already knows your people and policies. Policies enforce themselves. Approvals happen instantly with the right context. Reconciliation and reporting are always accurate because spend is tied directly to headcount, departments, and budgets. For admins, it’s real-time control without manual chase. For employees, it just works.

As Product Design Director for Spend, you’ll set the vision and the quality bar for this platform. You’ll create experiences powerful enough for finance leaders to run their business on, yet intuitive enough for anyone to submit a receipt or book a trip seamlessly. You’ll unify fragmented workflows into one coherent product, design the systems that make it scale globally, and build a team of designers who ship at speed without compromising craft.

What you will do

  • Set the vision and quality bar for Rippling’s Spend management platform, making it powerful enough for finance leaders and intuitive enough for every employee
  • Unify fragmented workflows—cards, expenses, bill pay, travel, and global spend—into one coherent product with consistent patterns, policies, and reporting
  • Design for global scale, ensuring workflows adapt gracefully to different markets, currencies, and compliance needs
  • Make the fundamentals effortless, so everyday tasks like reimbursements, approvals, and reconciliation feel automatic rather than administrative
  • Raise the craft bar, shaping experiences that communicate trust and clarity through every interaction and detail
  • Mentor and grow a world-class design team, running strong critiques, sharpening judgment, and helping designers do the best work of their careers
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional leaders to make fast, high-quality decisions and turn complex constraints into competitive advantages
  • Stay close to customers, translating their pain points into priorities that improve adoption, trust, and measurable business impact

What you will need

The pay range for this role is:

186,000 - 325,500 USD per year (US)
