Job Description

The Production Artist at Wizards of the Coast ensures that art and card frames for Magic: The Gathering are pixel-perfect and optimized for print. This role involves co-developing design files, detailing specifications for print vendors, reviewing output from other artists, and generating internal guideline documents. The artist will work closely with Art Directors and Graphic Designers, bringing initial concepts to fruition through cleanup, versioning, and print testing, while adhering to development timelines and troubleshooting problems.
Must have:
  • Work closely with Art Directors and Graphic Designers to bring concepts to fruition.
  • Perform cleanup, versioning, and print testing.
  • Detail specifications for commissioning artwork and print vendors.
  • Ensure creative intent is accurately completed by reviewing downstream artists' output.
  • Generate long-form internal guideline documents in InDesign.
  • Follow development timelines.
  • Troubleshoot problems with creative and cross-channel teams.
  • 3+ years’ experience in production and/or pre-press design using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing digital files for print with variable specifications.
  • Possess strong typographic skills and ability to produce layouts following design principles.
  • Ability to reference existing guidelines and templates for on-brand assets.
  • Drive own prioritization, time-management, and troubleshooting.
Good to have:
  • Understanding of Magic: The Gathering card creative elements.
  • Professional experience in gaming or fantasy-adjacent pop culture creative.

The Production Artist ensures that every piece of art, card frame we build and supporting spot plates look its best in the hands of our fans! This is both an upstream role, co-developing design files for other production artists to work from, and a downstream reviewer role where you ensure that the creative intent set forth on your projects is being accurately completed.

What You'll Do:

  • #### Working closely with Art Directors and Graphic Designers to take their initial concepts and bring them to fruition through cleanup, versioning, and print testing
  • #### Detailing the specifications of the files you build for the purposes of commissioning artwork and setting up our print vendors for success
  • #### Working with other production artist groups to ensure they are set up for success in working with your files
  • #### Reviewing the output of downstream artists to ensure that all output is accurate and meets Art Director and Brand goals
  • #### Generating long-form internal guideline documents in InDesign
  • #### Following development timelines to ensure tasks are being completed on time
  • #### Troubleshooting problems as they arise with both the creative team and cross-channel teams

What You'll Bring:

  • #### 3+ years’ experience in production and/or pre-press design experience working heavily in Adobe Creative Suite for a brand, agency, or production house
  • #### Demonstrable experience preparing digital files for print using variable specifications (ink limits, varnish plates, etc.)
  • #### Attention to detail with ability to finesse and adjust creative with minimal direction
  • #### Strong typographic skills and ability to produce layouts following basic design principles
  • #### Ability to reference existing guidelines and templates to produce on-brand assets
  • #### Ability to drive your own prioritization, time-management, and troubleshooting

Nice to Have:

  • #### Understanding of the creative elements of a Magic: The Gathering card
  • #### Professional experience in gaming or other fantasy-adjacent pop culture creative

Additional Details:

Please note that this is a temporary assignment providing services to Wizards through an external staffing agency. If you are selected for this assignment, you will be employed by Eastridge as a W2 employee and will not be an employee of Wizards.

  • #### Employment Type: Contingent Worker
  • #### Location: Renton, WA
  • #### Duration: 6 months with possible extension to 12 months

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • #### Starting Pay Range: $45/hour
  • #### Pay Range End: $50/hour
