Job Description

The Production Supervisor in the Radiator Department will oversee the daily operations of the remanufacturing area, ensuring safety, quality, and delivery objectives are met. This leadership role involves directing front-line employees, managing schedules, enforcing work standards, and promoting continuous improvement. The supervisor is responsible for meeting technical compliance with engineering requirements. Responsibilities include supervising radiator remanufacturing, ensuring correct use and maintenance of tools, overseeing the use of cranes and forklifts, troubleshooting production issues, and coordinating with various teams. They also have to maintain high standards in safety and provide coaching and feedback to shop personnel.
Must have:
  • Proven experience in radiator manufacturing within heavy industry
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and equipment
Good to have:
  • Mechanical or engineering associate degree or certificates
  • Experience with radiator repair techniques including brazing and soldering

Who will you be working with?

As the radiator shop, you will work closely with production team members to lead and support the tasks on the floor, while coordinating with the plant and operations manager on labor planning and production goals. This position also partners with quality, maintenance, safety, materials and continuous improvement team to align goals and ensure smooth goal completion.

The radiator shop supervisor oversees the daily operations of the remanufacturing area, ensuring safety, quality, and delivery objectives are met. This leadership role supports production by directing front-line employees, managing schedules, enforcing work standards, and working towards continuous improvement. This supervisor is responsible for meeting technical compliance with engineering requirements while promoting accountability and excellence in the radiator shop.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Preferred: +5 years of proven experience in radiator or heat exchanger manufacturing, assembly or remanufacturing within heavy industry or rail sectors.
  • Preferred: Mechanical or engineering associate degree, certificates and related education. Experience is equivalent to education requirements.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hans-on experience with radiator repair techniques including brazing, soldering, core replacement, pressure testing and leak repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical and assembly schematics, BOMS and specifications.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools torque, wrenches pneumatic tools, pressure testing equipment, hydraulic presses and flushing stations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office tools and ability to learn production software.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Supervise radiator remanufacturing including disassembling, cleaning, reassembly and testing.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge to oversee repairs during the radiators repairment.
  • Ensure correct use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment such as pneumatic tools, toque wrenches, pressure testers, hydraulic presses and flushing systems.
  • Oversee the correct use and operate of overhead cranes, hoists, and forklift for safe handling of heavy radiator components and assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to flow, cooling performance, and mechanical alignment.
  • Review and understand engineering mechanical drawings, part/component drawings, assembly drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
  • Understand Bills of Materials: engineering, production, indented, costing and their use.
  • Manage the understanding, signoff and adherence of work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), standard work documents, PPAP, FAI.
  • Coordinate and partner with interdisciplinary teams such as maintenance, lean, quality, engineering, workers, other production lines and management.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills, critical thinking, interfacing with engineering, management, direct labor, indirect labor, support functions, vendors, and service suppliers.
  • Ability in leading a team in problem solving, root cause analysis and associated tools: PDCA, DMAIC, 8P (9SPS), Fishbone, PFMEA, RCA, Kaizen, TPM, LOB, 5-Why
  • Lead a team in Lean principals, practice, events: VSM, flow optimization, Push/Pull, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, 6-sigma, TAKT time, Ghant charting.
  • Experience in manufacturing management and Front-Line Leadership: Safety, Quality, Delivery, forecasting, scheduling, equipment utilization, capacity analysis, labor requirements, overtime, past due, ERP reports and reporting, basic project management, disciplinary process, and adherence to work rules.
  • Maintain high standards in safety, workplace ergonomics, JSA, hazard analysis, and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor and enforce high performance, follow disciplinary procedures to ensure work rules are followed.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to shop personnel to support team development and performance.
  • Lead by example with a strong leadership presence on the shop floor, demonstrating professionalism, accountability and integrity.
  • Promote safety first by enforcing safety protocols, conducting workplace safety audits, and ensuring corrective action when risks are identified.
  • Handle various administrative tasks for production and leadership assignments.
  • Meet quality, safety, and production metrics stablish by the plant and operations manager.   

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Employees are required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Employees are required to walk throughout the day. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, including full shifts as part of the essential job and responsibilities.
  • The position requires the employee to be on-site during the scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • This position requires exposure to manufacturing work environments including noise, heat, and mechanical equipment.
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$60,700.00-$83,400.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
