Job Description

As a Quest Designer at Krafton Montreal, you will create and implement immersive and engaging narrative and gameplay-driven quests. You will take levels from concept to playable prototypes, collaborating closely with Narrative, Technical Design, Game Design, and Art teams. Your role involves designing, implementing, and refining quests aligned with the game's vision and mechanics, using your creative and technical skills to shape the player's experience and ensure high-quality gameplay.
Must have:
  • Create and design compelling game levels, including layout, architecture, terrain, puzzles, challenges, and enemy encounters.
  • Collaborate with the game design team to align levels with narrative, mechanics, and overall vision.
  • Develop captivating quests around diverse storylines, characters, and world lore.
  • Plan detailed assets and features for quests and integrate delivered assets.
  • Implement level designs using game development tools and scripting languages.
  • Place objects, enemies, and interactive elements for dynamic gameplay.
  • Iterate and fine-tune level designs based on playtesting and feedback.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (artists, animators, programmers, sound designers).
  • Create detailed design documentation, including layouts, sketches, diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Test and debug levels to ensure design and technical requirements are met.
  • Identify and resolve gameplay issues like pacing, balance, and usability.
  • Stay updated with level design and game development trends and best practices.
  • Analyze and evaluate competitor games for insights and inspiration.
Good to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, SketchUp).
  • Familiarity with level design tools (e.g., Hammer, Radiant).

This game is an AAA third-person action-adventure RPG experience, with a rich narrative and strategic gameplay. Job Description:

As a Quest Designer at Krafton Montreal, your primary responsibility will be to create and implement immersive and engaging narrative and gameplay driven quests for video games. You will take levels from concept to fully playable prototypes, by working closely with Narrative, Technical Design, Game Design and Art teams. You will design, implement, and refine game queststhat align with the game's overall vision and gameplay mechanics. Your creative and technical skills will be instrumental in shaping the player's experience and ensuring a high-quality gaming experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Level Design: Create and design compelling and visually appealing game levels, including layout, architecture, terrain, puzzles, challenges, and enemy encounters. Collaborate with the game design team to ensure the levels align with the game's narrative, mechanics, and overall vision.
  • Quest Design: Collaborate with the narrative team to develop compelling quests around diverse storylines, characters and world lore. Be able to plan detailed assets and features required for the creation of the quests and integrate the delivered assets (gameplay ingredients, locations, characters, dialogues, etc.), creating an engaging experience for players.
  • Gameplay Implementation: Implement level designs using relevant game development tools and scripting languages. Place objects, enemies, and interactive elements in the game world to create a dynamic and engaging gameplay experience. Iterate and fine-tune level designs based on playtesting and feedback.
  • Collaborative Work: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including artists, animators, programmers, and sound designers, to integrate level designs seamlessly into the game. Participate in team meetings, provide input, and contribute to the overall creative direction of the project.
  • Documentation: Create detailed design documentation, including level layouts, sketches, diagrams, and technical specifications. Clearly communicate your design intent and provide guidelines for implementation to ensure the vision is effectively translated into the game.
  • Quality Assurance: Test and debug levels to ensure they meet design and technical requirements. Identify and resolve gameplay issues, including pacing, balance, and usability, to deliver a polished and enjoyable player experience.
  • Industry Research: Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in level design and game development. Analyze and evaluate competitor games to gain insights and inspiration for improving your own level designs.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience in AAA gaming.
  • Having gone through most major phases of development (concept, pre-prod, production, debugging, support, ...).
  • Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field, would be a plus.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your level design skills, demonstrating creativity, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of gameplay mechanics.
  • Strong Knowledge of VISUAL scripting tools, such as Unreal Blueprint, or other level editing software.
  • Strong knowledge of layout/greyblocks building and understanding of the spatial and architectural qualities of a level.
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, sketch up) and level design tools (e.g., Hammer, Radiant) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of various game genres, mechanics, and level design principles.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project requirements.
