Job Summary
Since 2014, Goodbye Kansas has been bringing imagination to life through world-class technology and extraordinary talent, shaping the future of VFX and Animation. The studio is looking for a Freelance Unreal Engine FX Artist to join its Realtime team for an exciting upcoming project, collaborating with in-house artists and partners to deliver world-class in-engine visuals.
Must Have
- Creating high-quality in-engine FX with a focus on Unreal (Niagara and similar systems).
- Supporting in-engine lighting and VFX pipelines within a proprietary engine.
- Optimising and managing scenes/sequences to meet performance and fidelity targets.
- Collaborating with the Realtime Supervisor, developers, and other GBK departments to align workflows and troubleshoot issues.
- Providing creative and technical solutions to achieve the highest quality results.
- Solid professional experience in Realtime VFX for video games.
- Strong Unreal Engine skills (Niagara, materials, shaders, lighting).
- Proficiency in Houdini.
- Demonstrable understanding of the principles of realtime FX and cinematic visuals.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, embedded environment.
- Experience with Chaos (rigid body sims, destruction).
Good to Have
- Experience with in-engine physics for cloth/grooms.
- Knowledge of Python, Blueprints, or shader languages (HLSL/C++).
- Familiarity with version control (Perforce, Git).

Goodbye Kansas Studios is looking for a Freelance Unreal Engine FX Artist to join our Realtime team and support an exciting upcoming project. You’ll collaborate closely with our in-house artists and partners to deliver world-class visuals in-engine.
