Job Summary

As a Research Assistant Intern at Illumina, you will participate in a 20-week program within the Research and Development team, collaborating globally to develop new sequencing methods. You will gain hands-on experience in R&D lab operations, acquiring industrial skills such as Lean methodology, equipment operation and troubleshooting, innovative problem-solving, and project management. Responsibilities include conducting experiments, preparing buffers, analyzing data using basic statistics, assisting with lab maintenance, and providing solutions to routine technical problems.

Research Assistant Intern (20 weeks):

The Research Assistant Intern will be required to complete a 20 weeks program from 16 Mar 2026 to 02 Aug 2026. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview with Illumina’s Research & Development Team.

Project Description:

As an intern within Illumina’s Research and Development team, you will collaborate with a global, multi-disciplinary research team to contribute to the development of new sequencing methods. You will gain hands-on experience in R&D lab operations and acquire essential industrial skills. These skills include Lean methodology, exposure to equipment operation and troubleshooting, innovative problem-solving in daily operations, and the application of project management tools in tasks and assignments. You will report directly to the Lab Supervisor and provide support for various laboratory activities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in experiments and fieldwork, including fundamental tasks related to proteins and chemistry, such as preparing buffers.
  • Analyze data by utilizing basic statistics
  • Assist in laboratory maintenance
  • Upkeep of lab equipment, maintain laboratory supplies and good housekeeping
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to routine problems in relation to the project i.e methodological/technical problems
  • Opportunity to contribute to Lab Management projects
