As a Scientist 1 in Illumina’s Advanced Science team, you will join a multi-disciplinary research group focused on creating innovative sequencing methods. This role is crucial for the research and development of high-performance, stable, and robust sequencing reagents and consumables, meeting the stringent requirements of our global customers. You will contribute to expanding access to genomic technology and transforming human health.
Must have:
  • Lead investigations to solve cross-functional problems in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Plan and optimize research ideas for new sequencing methods and chemistries.
  • Explore new technologies and identify creative solutions to limitations.
  • Design, implement, analyze, and present experiments to demonstrate new technology feasibility.

  • Proven track record in innovation, scientific creativity, and scientific output in chemistry, bioconjugates, and material science.
  • Expertise in synthesis and analytical techniques for small molecules, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides, and/or peptides.
  • Excellent laboratory, experimental, and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an advanced degree without experience.

Job Details

Position Summary:As a Scientist 1 within Illumina’s Advanced Science team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team to help create new sequencing methods. You will play an important role in the research and development of sequencing reagents and consumables with the world-class performance, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Be the main contributor of project and lead investigation to solve cross-functional problems in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Plan and optimize research ideas leading to new methods and chemistries for sequencing in a fast-paced environment
  • Explore new technologies and identify creative solutions to overcome current limitations
  • Design, implement, analyze and present experiments to demonstrate feasibility of new technology
  • Be a collaborative team member and individual contributor.
  • Conduct clear and concise communication with colleagues (cross-functional) and supervisors through oral updates, written reports and technical meetings

Position Requirements:

  • Proven track record in innovation, scientific creativity and scientific output in new chemistry, bioconjugates and material science
  • Expert in synthesis and analytical techniques for small molecules, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and/or peptides
  • Excellent laboratory, experimental and organizational skills
  • Strong team player with proven collaboration, innovation, and openness character traits.
  • Collaborates effectively at a program level and with stakeholders
  • Attention to detail
  • A self-starter, positive, and driven with a “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
