At WHOOP, the AI Platform team is building the foundation for scalable, responsible, and accessible Generative AI across products. As a Senior Android Engineer, you will design mechanisms to deliver personalized insights and coaching, combining a platform mindset with engineering excellence. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ideate, plan, and implement new features for the Android app, leveraging the latest Android frameworks to unlock the full potential of Generative AI in core products, coaching, and insights.
Must Have:
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-functional team with a product manager, designers, Android engineers, and backend engineers to ideate, plan, and implement new features
  • Build exciting new features for the Android app using the latest Android frameworks
  • Help define and improve best practices for the entire Android team
  • Mentor other members of the Android team
  • Communicate effectively with immediate and external team members
  • Stay up to date with the latest Android frameworks and best practices
  • Product minded engineer with empathy for the customer experience
  • Possess a strong willingness to learn and grow rapidly across Android and external systems
  • Experience in building, testing, debugging, and delivering native Android apps in a professional environment
  • Knowledge of Kotlin and frameworks such as Coroutines, Android Jetpack libraries (including ViewModel, Flows, and Navigation), Room database, and retrofit / okhttp
  • Experience using Git to organize feature work
  • Expert knowledge of Android application structure and components as well as lifecycle and Android Design Guidelines
  • Well-versed in communicating with a RESTful backend
  • Experience using best-practice mobile architecture and modular design, including patterns such as MVVM

The AI Platform team at WHOOP is responsible for building the foundation that enables scalable, responsible, and accessible use of Generative AI across our products. We focus on developing reusable infrastructure, services, and tools that empower product and software teams to experiment with, integrate, and ship GenAI-powered features efficiently and safely. By abstracting the complexities of large language models (LLMs) and enabling deliverability of personalized member insights, our platform accelerates innovation and ensures consistent, high-quality user experiences.

As a Senior Android Engineer on the AI Platform team, you will play a key role in designing the mechanism to deliver personalized insights and coaching throughout our products. This role combines a platform mindset with engineering excellence, helping WHOOP unlock the full potential of Generative AI—across the Core product, coaching, insights, and beyond.

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
