Senior Backend Engineer- Games

Next Games, based in Helsinki, Finland, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a highly experienced team focused on creating successful mobile games. This role involves developing and operating tools that power the gaming platform for millions of players globally, collaborating with frontend engineers, and building bespoke systems using Netflix’s world-class tech stack. The ideal candidate is proactive, curious about new technologies, and committed to building robust and maintainable services within a small, agile team.

Must Have

• Experienced in back-end development
• Experience with modern development practices (DevOps, CI/CD, Containers)
• History of working with frontend teams to create web-based tools (React or similar)
• Java programming experience, or knowledge in a similar language and a drive to learn
• Knowledge of various databases (Postgres, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Cassandra)
• Great troubleshooting and communication skills
• Understanding of modern software development practices
• Fluency in English

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our studio in Helsinki. In this role, you will work with a very senior team set to create the next success story in mobile gaming.

Together with our skilled frontend engineers, you will work on the tooling that powers our platform, enabling millions of players around the world to enjoy the games we create here at Next Games. You will build bespoke systems that allow our teams to engage with their players through Netflix’s world-class tech stack.

You are curious about what’s new and how things could work, and you have a drive to exceed your own limits and improve yourself and the team. You are proactive and take pride in building robust and maintainable services.

At Next Games, you get to work on challenging technical tasks using modern development practices. Our team is relatively small, which means that we have very little bureaucracy and that you have the opportunity to take on a wide variety of tasks.
