Job Description
Avalanche Studios Group seeks a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the backend infrastructure of their Apex Connect platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Responsibilities include ensuring scalability, security, performance, and cost-efficiency; leading IaC transition; improving CI/CD pipelines; supporting team members; and championing cost-effective, high-availability services. The role requires proficiency in GCP, Kubernetes, IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.), and programming languages (Python, Go, or C++).

Avalanche Studios Group is hiring a Cloud Engineer for our central technology organisation, Central Tech. Central Tech is our core technology team and we innovate in areas that push the boundaries for what open-world sandbox gaming means as well as enhance our players' online experience within our live-service games.
In this role, you will contribute to developing and optimising our backend platform, Apex Connect, and its infrastructure in the cloud. Apex Connect is an integral part of the Apex Engine suite, a robust set of tools and services driving our live-service games. It plays a pivotal role in engaging millions of active players globally, providing essential services such as user authentication, data tracking, live event management, and advanced matchmaking.
As a Cloud Engineer, you will be a part of our engineering team, focusing on setting up, operating, and refining our infrastructure in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
What you'll do
- Designing, implementing and maintaining our backend platform infrastructure architecture
- Ensuring that our infrastructure is scalable, secure, performant and cost-efficient
- Leading the transition and expansion of Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Improving our CI/CD pipeline to ensure developer experience as well as service stability
- Supporting other members of the team, fostering an inclusive environment of growth and development within Central Tech
- Provide technical excellence and problem solving
- Be a champion for cost-efficiently running services in commercial cloud environments
- Be a champion for the scaling of backend infrastructure to meet high availability requirements
Who you are
- Professional experience with cloud or hybrid infrastructure (preferably GCP)
- Able to set and explain measurable goals for service quality
- Experience with Redis, Memcache, or equivalent
- Experience working with package management and dependency
- Proficiency with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes
- Experience in establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Professional experience with one or more of the following programming languages Python, Go or C++
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.)
- A solid understanding of software architecture
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana and Google Cloud Monitoring
- Experience with Cloudflare DNS and Cloudflare DDoS protection products
- A passion and interest in gaming
