Job Description

This role involves designing and developing a Java-based distributed system for post-trading operations, including cash settlement and reporting. The Senior Java Software Engineer will be responsible for contributing to all phases of the software development process, from design to deployment and maintenance. They will write well-designed, testable, and efficient code, create and maintain documentation, and participate in code reviews. The engineer will also measure and track performance, develop solutions to improve system health, and gain a deep understanding of the products from both a technical and business perspective. They will also be involved in mentoring other developers and sharing best practices.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of Software Engineer experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Java Core experience (collections, multithreading, I/O)
  • Knowledge of SOLID, DRY, and Law of Demeter
  • Understanding of object-oriented concepts
  • Good design capabilities, understanding of design patterns
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks & libraries
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Experience with build automation tools (Gradle, Maven)
  • Linux / Unix OS knowledge
  • Scripting skills (e.g., JavaScript, Python)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience with RDBMSs
  • Ability to communicate with clarity
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Advanced level in written and spoken English
Good to have:
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD)
  • Knowledge / experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with DevOps tools
  • A good understanding of financial and trading concepts

Role Description

We are looking to hire a Java Software Engineer who has a solid software engineering background with excellent object-oriented analysis, design, programming skills, a high appetite for clean code and looking forward to showcasing them in a highly professional environment, and will be responsible for designing and developing a Java-based distributed system. The system is designed for post-trading specific operations (e.g. cash settlement, reconciliation with 3rd parties, reporting).

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all phases of the software development process, from design to deployment and maintenance
  • Write well designed, testable and efficient code
  • Create and maintain documentation to describe the system and its parts, including requirements documents, design decisions, architecture descriptions, program source code and support documentation
  • Measure and track performance, latency, scalability and develop solutions to improve overall system health
  • Develop monitoring tools and perform root cause analysis for production issues raised to the engineering team
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Gain a deep understanding of our products, from a technical but also from a business perspective
  • Use open-source and other technologies outside of the JDK
  • Participate proactively in team meetings to maintain or improve team standards
  • Help growing the current and next generation of developers in writing clean code, by sharing standard methodologies in software development

Candidate Profile

Skills:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience with Java Core (collections, multithreading, I/O, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of the following principles: SOLID, DRY, Law of Demeter, etc.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented concepts
  • Good design capabilities, understanding of most common design patterns
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks & libraries (JUnit, TestNG, Mockito)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Experience with build automation tools (Gradle, Maven)
  • Linux / Unix OS knowledge
  • Scripting skills (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Shell, Ruby, Bash, etc.)
  • Working experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum
  • Experience with RDBMSs (e.g. MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and precision, presenting complex / technical information in a concise format that is audience appropriate
  • Strong interpersonal skills, for quickly establishing rapport, building positive relationships and networks
  • Advanced level in written and spoken English

Educational background:

  • Academic degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related disciplines

Engineer’s mindset:

  • A high degree of organizational skills – ability to gain the autonomy that you need to perform your daily tasks
  • Self-motivated, self-driven – you must be able to deal with setbacks and continue to pursue goals despite obstacles
  • You take initiative to develop knowledge in technology products and tools through on the job learning, certifications and projects
  • Positive team player attitude – we truly believe that software development is a team sport

Advantage – would be a plus:

  • Experience with software practices like test-driven development (TDD), continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • Knowledge / experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud computing platform
  • Experience with DevOps tools (GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible)
  • A good understanding of financial and trading concepts
