Apple's Materials Engineering Product Design team is seeking a Senior Plastics Engineer to develop new materials for innovative enclosure designs across all Apple product lines. This role involves designing new plastics, defining qualification criteria, setting material specifications, and scaling processes, with a focus on maximizing recycled and renewable content. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Operations, and Reliability, contributing to the look and feel of Apple's world-class electronic devices.
Must have:
  • MS in Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Chemistry
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with ability to use statistical tools and techniques
  • Technical project management experience leading projects from R&D to production
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, written communication, and social skills
  • Extensive work experience in plastics (base resins, compounds, additive packages)
  • Technical knowledge of injection molding, tool design, and compounding processes
  • Proficient in design for manufacturing practices for plastic parts
  • Familiarity with characterization techniques (DMA, tensile, rheology, TMA, DSC, etc)
  • Track record of material selection and development for products with demanding performance requirements and tight schedules

Our Materials Engineering Product Design team is dedicated to developing new materials that influence and enable innovative enclosure designs across all Apple product lines year after year. We are seeking a Senior Plastics Engineer to help take future iterations of Apple products to the next level. Could this be you?

As part of the Materials Engineering Product Design team at Apple, you will help design the next generation of the world's finest electronic devices. You will drive the rapid advancement of materials and processes that are used in enclosures of all our products. You will be tasked with designing new plastics for a variety of internal and external enclosure parts, defining relevant qualification criteria, setting plastic material specifications, and working with our multi- functional teams to bring these materials and processes to scale. Additionally, you will be challenged to do so while maximizing the percentage of recycled and renewable content in every material selection and development. In this role, you will work closely with many different multi-functional teams including Industrial Design, Operations, and Reliability. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $220,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
