Job Summary
Lightspeed LA is seeking a Senior Mission Designer to join their new studio in Irvine, California. This role involves designing and creating missions, quests, levels, and overall gameplay experiences for players. The designer will collaborate with various game development teams, develop mission concepts, create detailed outlines, work with programmers, playtest, and iterate on designs to ensure alignment with the game's vision and mechanics, delivering a polished and immersive experience.
Must Have
- Develop mission design concepts and proposals based on the game's overall vision, story, and gameplay mechanics.
- Create detailed mission outlines and documentation, including mission objectives, scripted events, and environmental elements.
- Collaborate with game designers, narrative designers, and artists to create engaging and immersive gameplay experiences.
- Work with programmers to ensure that implemented content functions as intended.
- Playtest missions to identify and fix design flaws, bugs, and balance issues.
- Iterate on mission designs based on player feedback and analytics to continuously improve the gameplay experience.
Good to Have
- Bachelor's degree in game design, computer science, or related field preferable.
- A strong passion for video games and knowledge of the gaming industry.
- Proven experience in mission design or level design in the video game industry is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in using game development tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Propensity and potential for learning and growing.

As a Senior Mission Designer, you will be responsible for designing and creating missions, quests, levels, and overall gameplay experiences for players. The job involves collaborating with other game development teams, such as game designers, narrative designers, artists, and programmers, to ensure that the mission design aligns with the game's overall vision and mechanics.

Who We Look For

The expected base pay range for this position in the location(s) listed above is $93,100.00 to $216,700.00 per year. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Employees hired for this position may be eligible for a sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Subject to the terms and conditions of the plans in effect, hired applicants are also eligible for medical, dental, vision, life and disability benefits, and participation in the Company’s 401(k) plan. The Employee is also eligible for up to 15 to 25 days of vacation per year (depending on the employee’s tenure), up to 13 days of holidays throughout the calendar year, and up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year. Your benefits may be adjusted to reflect your location, employment status, duration of employment with the company, and position level. Benefits may also be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
