Curriculum Associates is looking for an inspired and passionate Senior Motion Designer to create engaging visuals and thoughtful, easy-to-use learning experiences for our groundbreaking i-Ready products. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical and organizational skills, and is a conceptual thinker who can work iteratively and collaboratively to simplify challenging design problems. You’ll help define and implement a motion design language and you’ll think critically about how motion reinforces CA’s UX brand, enhances interactivity, and delights our users.
The Senior Motion Designer will dive deeply into our Digital Literacy product for Grades 6–8 with a focus on using motion to bring the experience alive. You’ll collaborate with the product design team to develop accessible motion design systems, create storyboards, prototype motion concepts, and participate in user research sessions. The right person will thrive working iteratively alongside the Senior Design Director and Product Team Designers, Curriculum Experts, Producers and Project Managers to translate pedagogy and instructional materials into highly engaging and rewarding student experiences. They will also love working closely with developers to deliver scaleable, well specced animations in an iterative setting.

The impact you'll have:
  • Transform UI with animation to create an experience that’s delightful, engaging, clear and supports the pedagogical needs of the product.
  • Collaborate with design team to create animations that support product goals through the user experience design process from research through implementation
  • Create and iterate on motion design specs that clearly articulate design intention in a developer-focused manner.
  • Work closely with Sr Animator, Sr Design Director and Design Leads to further develop the UI/UX animation vision, and help establish related principles and processes for the team
  • Contribute to the product design team as they develop efficient processes for information architecture, interaction models, user flows, templates, UI pattern libraries, and other UI design deliverables.
  • Ensure that each experience is user-centered, highly engaging, clear and relevant to students at all levels and according to various demographics such as gender, ethnicity, culture and age.
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring junior UX animators on the team
  • Find clear, simple design solutions based on user needs and given business goals
  • Research common UI animation trends, develop high fidelity comps, and collaborate with , ensuring a high level of finish and polish.
  • Develop designs for instructional lessons as a member of a highly collaborative cross-functional team based on a larger product-wide creative.
  • Ensure that each experience is user-centered, highly engaging, clear and relevant to students at all levels and according to various demographics such as gender, ethnicity, culture and age.
  • Use iterative sketches, storyboards/wireframes and prototypes to communicate and transform ideas into products.
  • Create a range of low-fidelity and high-fidelity documentation–from sketches and digital comps to detailed specs and polished final animations.
  • Collaborate closely with agile development teams to ensure proper implementation of the designs.
  • Maintain brand consistency and adhere to design guidelines.
  • Assume responsibility for your task and schedule management which includes frequent communication with Project Managers and on-time delivery of assignments in a highly deadline-driven environment.

What we’re looking for:
  • 3+ years of design experience in a high-paced design agency or corporation
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience in design and related studies
  • Expert knowledge of 2D & 3D design software, animation, and/or interface design
  • Advanced knowledge of Figma and Adobe CC (After Effects, Animate, XD, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience creating innovative and thoughtful products that engage and delight its users
  • A proven understanding of best practices for human centered design and user experience
  • Knowledge of mobile and web-based interactions
  • Experience working iteratively with developers from ideation through handoff and implementation
  • Highly detail-oriented and strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines in highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and the ability to absorb feedback and iterate
  • An enthusiasm for the exploration and consumption of all forms of media, apps and interactive software and the vision to apply them to K–8 education.
  • Basic understanding of HTML5, iOS and other programming languages preferred
  • A record of previous achievement shown through the demonstration of a thoughtful design process. Portfolio submission required to be considered.

We’d also love to see:
  • Experience designing for K–8 curriculum or children’s media
  • Proficient in prototyping software (Axure, Figma, Adobe XD, Hype, etc.)
  • Previous experience designing accessible, WCAG compliant animations

Benefits and Pay Range:
Pay Range – This role’s range is $75.00 - $85.00/hour. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.

Benefits – Temporary and per-diem employees who average at least 30 hours of work per week within the Company’s look-back period are eligible to enroll in medical coverage after 90 days of employment. Temporary and per-diem employees working more than 20 hours per week are eligible for twelve paid holidays. All temporary and per-diem employees are eligible for accrued sick time.
