Job Description

Flock Safety is seeking a Senior NPI Engineer to join their NPI Engineering organization. This role is crucial for launching new products and sustaining existing designs throughout their lifecycle. Responsibilities include supporting contract manufacturers (CMs) in qualifying designs for mass production, driving root-cause and corrective action plans for quarantined devices, managing continuous improvement initiatives to increase yield and reduce costs, and owning the NPI cycle for quality-of-life design changes. The company aims to reduce crime in the United States by 25% in the next three years, leveraging an intelligent platform that combines cities, businesses, schools, and law enforcement agencies.

The Opportunity

Flock is looking to add a Senior NPI Engineer to our NPI Engineering organization. As we focus on developing the latest and greatest devices, it is imperative to add to and build up the NPI team to launch new products and sustain existing designs at all stages of their lifecycle. This role will be integral in supporting new and existing CMs to qualify designs for mass production, drive root-cause/corrective action plans to recover devices stranded in quarantine, manage continuous improvement to increase yield and/or lower costs in production, and own the NPI cycle for quality-of-life design changes that support the vitality of our existing products.

This is a remote role and will require travel up to 25%.

The Skillset

We're looking for people who have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in NPI, HW Production/Manufacturing, or similar roles.

  • Proficiency in the assembly and testing processes of Mobile, IoT, or imaging devices.

  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing process development and improvement, particularly in fast-paced environments.

  • Experience collaborating with subcontractors.

  • Broad technical competence across relevant engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc.).

  • A deep understanding of the development cycle as both a process and a discipline, with the ability to apply first principles and maintain focus on goals amidst constant change, learning, and new analysis.

  • Familiarity with production processes, including injection molding, PCBA fabrication, and cable over-molding.

  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Excellent teamwork skills, with a proven ability to work cross-functionally and drive projects to timely success.

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency in reading schematic diagrams and PCB documentation.

  • Developed and implemented comprehensive test solutions for new products, encompassing both software and hardware.

  • Experienced with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) processes for PCB and electronic components production.

  • Skilled in using CAD (SolidWorks) for designing manufacturing and testing aids/fixtures.

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in utilizing Altium for test fixture circuit design.

  • Expertise in optics and image testing and analysis.

  • Proven track record of successfully bringing products from prototyping and conception through to mass production.

  • Become familiar with Flock’s current production, Manufacturing workstreams and challenges

  • Integrate into current and new Contract Manufacturer engagement

The First 60 Days

  • Able to independently own specific tasks

  • Support prioritized ongoing activities

  • Contribute to future productization plans

90 Days & Beyond

  • Become the primary owner of various workflows and even a specific product in the NPI phase

  • Drive process improvements that increase production yield and reduce manufacturing costs

  • Drive improvements to our vendor management and communication processes

  • Contribute to cross-functional decision-making regarding at least one project’s manufacturing process and technical requirements

  2. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day.

  3. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

  4. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive in your function and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.
