Job Description

Flock Safety is a leading safety technology platform, building complex camera systems with advanced features. This role strengthens the team's kernel and HAL capabilities to accelerate productization of Flock devices by linking hardware features to software. The Senior Camera Pipeline & Tuning Engineer will develop proof-of-concept designs and prototypes across the stack, from application to driver layers, focusing on camera systems development, ISP tuning, and pipeline optimization to enhance community safety.
Must Have:
  • Strong understanding of Qualcomm camera architectures, ISP blocks, and image processing pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with camera bring-up on Android or Linux platforms, including driver and HAL layer development.
  • Solid understanding of camera sensors, optics, image signal processing (ISP), and color pipelines.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python for embedded development and automation.
  • Experience using Qualcomm development tools for tuning and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with kernel-level debugging, middleware integration, and performance profiling.
  • Proven ability to analyze and optimize image quality across varying lighting and environmental conditions.

The Opportunity

Flock Safety is continuously building more and more complex camera systems that utilize advanced camera features provided by the chipset or developed in-house. The efficient development of such features requires the team to have the capability to build proof of concept designs and prototypes throughout the stack, ranging from Android / Linux application layer to the middleware and down to the driver layer. The purpose for this role is to strengthen our team's kernel, and HAL capabilities in order to enable faster productization of Flock devices with linking our hardware features to our software capabilities.

This position is on-site in Tampere, Finland.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in camera systems development, ISP tuning, or camera pipeline optimization
  • Strong understanding of Qualcomm camera architectures, ISP blocks, and image processing pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with camera bring-up on Android or Linux platforms, including driver and HAL layer development
  • Solid understanding of camera sensors, optics, image signal processing (ISP), and color pipelines
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python for embedded development and automation
  • Experience using Qualcomm development tools for tuning and performance optimization
  • Familiarity with kernel-level debugging, middleware integration, and performance profiling
  • Proven ability to analyze and optimize image quality across varying lighting and environmental conditions
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware and software teams

90 Days at Flock

This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired in this role at Flock Safety.

The First 30 Days

  • Learn Flock products and how to use them in the lab
  • Get familiar with Flock Safety Products and configurations
  • Learn how to install Flock Cameras and how to use the camera manager
  • Understand the end-to-end Flock capture pipeline from the camera driver to the admin in the cloud
  • Setup Qualcomm environments and start contributing the tunings

The First 60 Days

  • Improve pipeline and tunings for a product
  • Report the improvements of the new pipeline

90 Days & Beyond

  • Propose more automated tuning solutions
  • Present a plan to automate the tuning process at least for some parts ,so that it is easier and faster in the future

The Interview Process

3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day.

4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

If an offer is extended and accepted, this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification as a condition of employment. Applicants must meet all FBI CJIS Security Policy requirements, including a fingerprint-based background check.
