Wind River is seeking a Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Linux to lead the strategy and roadmap for eLxr Pro, their commercial Debian distribution. This role involves gathering input from customers, sales, and market research to define the future of enterprise Linux at Wind River, with a focus on edge deployments. The Product Manager will own the product lifecycle, write requirements, prioritize the backlog, conduct market research, and collaborate with engineering and sales teams. The company is a global leader in software for mission-critical intelligent systems and has been recognized for its innovation and culture, including Great Place to Work certification. They are involved in projects like NASA space missions and 5G milestones.
Must have:
  • 8+ years managing product lifecycle
  • Experience with open-source/Linux products
  • Strategic planning and roadmap development
  • Agile methodologies and Product Owner experience
  • Writing requirements for engineering
  • Business rationalization against technical product
  • Understanding of Linux ecosystem and enterprise open source
  • Understanding of security, containerization, cloud
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to move between technical and business discussions
  • Bachelor's degree with relevant experience

  • Master's degree in Engineering, CS, or MBA

About the Opportunity

We’re hiring an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the strategy and roadmap for eLxr Pro, our commercial Debian distributionWe launched the eLxr Project and its commercial version, eLxr Pro, in 2024 to address challenges presented by todays edge-to-cloud deployments and provide a secure, lightweight enterprise Linux based on Debian.

As Product Manager for eLxr (Pro and Project), you will own the strategy and roadmap for this product line end-to-end.  You’ll gather input from external customers, sales, market research, fellow product managers, support teams, and partners, and define the future of enterprise Linux at Wind River with a focus on the edge.       

You will take over some existing projects and roadmap elements and collaborate with other product managers on the team who own other parts of our commercial Linux offering.   You will write requirements, justify investments, prioritize the backlog, own your roadmap, do market research, analyze the competition, collaborate with the sales teams on key deals, review defects, engage with extended teams, and evangelize eLxr Pro and Project both internally and externally.       

You will work in close partnership with experienced Engineering and Product Management teams. 

About You

You are an experienced business leader who is passionate about building great software and have an affinity for open-source software, Linux, and associated tools and technologies.        

   8+ years managing the entire product lifecycle, from concept to end-of-life

  Experience managing open-source products or projects, with Linux-based products strongly preferred

  Experience with strategic planning, roadmap development, feature prioritization, Agile methodologies and the Product Owner role, and project management

  Experience writing requirements for engineering

  Demonstrated application of business rationalization against a technical product

  Excellent understanding of the Linux ecosystem and open source for enterprise

  Good understanding of security, containerization, and orchestration concepts, cloud technologies and constructs (containers, universal base images, Kubernetes)

  Strong analytical abilities, with excellent written and oral communication skills with a collaborative mindset

  Great presenter, public speaker and advocate for your customers and product line

  Experience supporting customers, account teams, and partners in solution design and strategic partnerships

  Ability to move easily between product, services, marketing, strategy, and technical discussions

  Bachelors degree with suitable experience required.  Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or MBA a plus.

Moderate travel (5-10%) may be required depending on location.

Must be a US or Canadian citizen residing in one of the following locations: Walnut Creek, CA, San Diego, CA or Boston, MA with ability to be present on site 3 days/week.

Compensation 
The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is currently $195,000 to $220,200 plus a bonus for MA and CA residents, and $220,000 to $270,000 plus a bonus for SF Bay Area residents. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, and 12 paid holidays.
