Job Description

As a Reliability Engineer within Infrastructure Service Delivery (ISD) for LSEG Markets, you will focus on building and running large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. Your role involves ensuring services meet reliability and performance expectations by applying software and systems engineering principles. You will identify and propose strategic enhancements, drive best-of-breed improvements in automation, monitoring, and alerting, and architect solutions to operational problems. Key responsibilities include proactively ensuring system availability, identifying and mitigating issues in complex environments, and applying Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code practices. You will also install, configure, and maintain operating systems and application software, provide advanced support, maintain security and backup strategies, write custom scripts for efficiency, and manage project improvements with regular status reporting.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of experience in IT or technology support
  • 2-3 years of experience in DevOps/SRE

  • Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Experience with monitoring and data analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab)
  • Experience deploying infrastructure as code (Terraform)

Infrastructure Service Delivery (ISD) is responsible for the providing business aligned, best of breed technology solutions, engineering & extended level of infrastructure support. The department is made up of the following teams:

  • LSEG Markets

This Reliability Engineer role is aligned to the LSEG Markets pillar within Infrastructure Service Delivery (ISD)

Role Description

This is a Reliability Engineer role within the Infrastructure Service Delivery (ISD) organisation in I&C, focussed on the LSEG Markets businesses.

This Reliability Engineering (RE) role combines software and systems engineering for building and running large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. RE ensures that internal and external services meet or exceed reliability and performance expectations while adhering to our engineering principles. RE is also an engineering approach to building and running production systems, we engineer solutions to operational problems. Practices such as limiting time spent on operational work, blameless post-mortems, proactive identification, and prevention of potential outages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies and proposes strategic service and system changes, enhancements and developments and liaises with appropriate third party and software vendors, users and IT teams 

  • Responsible for delivering best of breed enhancements to the environment including but not limited to automation, monitoring and alerting

  • Architect, Design and Drive enhancements to the environment through to implementation

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

  • Understand existing complex environment and be able to easily identify problem areas and undertake successful implementations to resolve and/or mitigate

  • Apply the best of Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices to simultaneously increase change velocity and platform stability

  • Ensuring monitoring performance and identifying any issues, identify possible solutions, and work with support engineers to provide resolution

  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems

  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools

  • Provide an advanced level of support to the existing environment when required

  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies

  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks

  • Call out risks and issues and provide frequent status reports and for management

  • Write and maintain appropriate documentation for manual and automated processes

  • Manage, deliver and monitor a number of key improvements to the current systems and infrastructure

  • Actively report on project progress, raising risks and managing work often with conflicting priorities and timescales

Key Skills/Behaviours

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or a related subject) or have 8+ years relevant experience in similar role and environment.

  • Have a strong technical background; 3+ years’ experience in an IT or technology support role

  • 2-3 years of experience in DevOps/SRE;

  • Pro-active behaviour that demonstrates initiative and positive work ethic;

  • Solid interpersonal skills and comfortable interacting with partners at both infrastructure and application levels;

  • Ability to handle diverse locations and employees from diverse cultures;

  • Experience of handling a range of internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Skills/Behaviours

  • Experience in benchmarking and performance analysis of parallel applications & workflows

  • Experience with automation software (e.g., Puppet, Ansible) preferably;

  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, RHEV) preferably;

  • Experience with monitoring systems;

  • Experience with scripting (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python);

  • Systems configuration and administration: Windows and/or Linux;

  • Networking experience load balancing, network security, standard network protocols (HTTP/s, DNS, etc.);

  • Database knowledge (Oracle, MSSQL);

  • Strong experience in public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure);

  • Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker);

  • Experience in monitoring and data analytics tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Open Telemetry, ELK;

  • Experience with CI/CD tooling Jenkins, GitLab, and others;

  • Experience deploying infrastructure as a code (Terraform);

  • Ability to analyse how components of a distributed system work together using a broad range of skills and tools.
