As a Software Engineer, you will develop robust, scalable, and observable systems that are reliably and efficiently operated by the idealo Offer team – thereby supporting the shopping experience of millions of users. As part of a diverse, growth-oriented team, you will share knowledge, foster collaboration, and actively contribute to the further development of our systems.

In addition to architecture, performance, and automation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring data correctness and traceability within our backend systems.

Your tasks

Technical Responsibility & Architecture

• Design and development of scalable backend services for offer processing.
• Ensuring performance, stability, and reliability – even under peak load.
• Further development of event-driven architectures (Java-based, Spring Boot, Kafka etc.).
• Use of an AWS infrastructure (EKS, Lambda, S3 etc.) as well as Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi).
• Implementation of monitoring, logging, and automated data validations to keep system and data status transparent.
• Use and optimization of internal database systems (Redis, ClickHouse, MongoDB).

System Design & Quality Assurance

• Development of robust, modular, and testable architectures with a focus on correctness, availability, and extensibility.
• Implementation of CI/CD and Observability principles.
• Integration of automated health checks and validations for early detection of system or data anomalies.

Collaboration & Communication

• Close collaboration with other teams to align technical solutions with business-relevant goals.
• Participation in architectural and prioritization decisions across team boundaries.
• Active knowledge transfer and promotion of an open, collaborative engineering culture.

Innovation & Further Development

• Evaluation of new technologies (e.g., LLMs, Cloud Services, automated monitoring).
• Improvement of Developer Experience through optimized tooling and automation processes.
• Co-design of a platform that can dynamically adapt to new requirements.
