Zoox is seeking a safety-critical software engineer for its Collision Avoidance System Motion Planning team. The role involves developing cutting-edge motion planning and control systems to achieve high safety ratings. Responsibilities include building collision avoidance motion planning software, leading technical direction, defining architecture, designing complex software components, and mentoring junior engineers. The role offers exposure to safety-critical system engineering, perception, prediction, and embedded computing, aiming to redefine AI software capabilities in high-mission-assurance environments.
Must have:
- Build collision avoidance motion planning software

- Proficiency in C++ coding
- Experience with real-time systems and latency handling

- Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

Job Details
Zoox is looking for a safety-critical software engineer to join our Collision Avoidance System Motion planning team. In this role, you will be responsible for bringing cutting edge motion planning and control systems towards high standard safety ratings. This is a multidisciplinary role that will get you exposed to safety-critical system engineering, perception, prediction, and embedded computing. You will lead the effort redefining what cutting-edge AI software can do in high-mission-assurance environments.
In this role, you will:
- Build the software of collision avoidance motion planning
- Lead the technical direction of software projects, define architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
- Design, develop, and review complex software components, ensure code quality and maintainability.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level software engineers.
- Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, analyze data to identify potential issues.
Qualifications
- MS or higher degree in related field with 6 years of industry experience
- Strong background in computer science, especially coding in c++
- Have experience of real-time system, especially latency handling
- Must be a team player with good communication skills and be able to guide the team member through software architecture design, experience with mentoring team members
- Past experience of Autonomous driving or robotics industry
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with writing functional requirements driven code and familiar with formal verification & validation techniques
- Familiarity with Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and/or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Experience with existing Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) technologies, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-following, automated lane changing
$204,000 - $276,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
