Job Description

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Digital Products) at Scout Motors, you will lead teams in developing digital solutions and services for customers and business partners. This includes products like order management, customer management, production, inventory optimization, loyalty, and vehicle connectivity. You will design technical underpinnings for multiple products, scale software, and provide technical leadership, contributing to an iconic American brand's electrification and digitization.
Must have:
  • Lead teams of highly skilled software engineers
  • Drive development of digital solutions and services
  • Design technical underpinnings of multiple products and services
  • 10+ years in software engineering, scaling products, and technical leadership
  • Focus on back-end platform and services development
  • Understand APIs, microservices, databases, and integrations
  • Strong coding skills in GoLang, gRPC, GraphQL
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of system vulnerabilities and prevention
  • Experience in start-up settings, launching 0 to 1 products
  • Technical lead for large projects (6-12+ months)
  • Integrate with 3rd party platforms
  • 4+ years leading high-performing software engineering teams
Good to have:
  • Experience building data pipes, AI/ML and web/mobile analytics
  • Experience building systems in the auto industry
  • Full-stack development experience

What you’ll do

As the Senior Staff Software Engineer for Scout Motor’s digital products and services, you will be responsible for leading teams of highly skilled software engineers and driving the development of digital solutions and services for our customers and business partners. Some of the key products as part of digital portfolio are – order management, customer management, production, inventory and planning optimization, loyalty, merchandise, servicing and repairs, mobile app, vehicle connectivity, charging, and more. You will work with engineering managers, senior engineers, and cross-functional partners to design the technical underpinnings of multiple products and services. At the same time, you’ll have

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and scaling software products and services, providing technical leadership and direction for development, preferably with a focus on back-end platform and services development.
  • Experience building comprehensive understanding of APIs, microservices, databases, integrations and other complex backend systems.
  • Strong coding skills, navigating codebases with different languages and tools (GoLang, gRPC, GraphQL), building and managing ci/cd pipelines supporting services, web and mobile releases.
  • Knowledge of potential system vulnerabilities and how to prevent them.
  • Experience operating in start-up settings, launching 0 to 1 products and services, and driving graduation to highly complex and scalable services and applications.
  • Experience as a technical lead for large projects (6-12+ months in length), including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions
  • Ability to internalize the best ideas from across the organization, humbly setting a vision that others are excited to get behind
  • Experience integrating with 3rd party platforms and partnering with external service providers.
  • 4+ years in leading high-performing software engineering teams. Direct evidence of the ability to guide, motivate, and inspire a team towards the successful completion of complex projects.

Preferred:

  • Experience building data pipes, AI/ML and web/mobile analytics.
  • Experience building systems in auto industry
  • Full-stack development

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial California base salary range = $220,000.00 - $242,000.00
