Job Description

People Can Fly is seeking a Senior Technical Game Designer to create, implement, and maintain system design elements, tools, and workflows for the level design team. Responsibilities include assigning tasks, providing constructive feedback, and evaluating direct reports to foster an engaging team atmosphere. The role involves collaborating with various departments, implementing the Director's vision, and offering mentorship and troubleshooting support. The designer will also work with production on scheduling, maintain documentation standards, and ensure a balance between creative vision and technical constraints, proactively identifying project risks.

Job Description

Main Goal of the Role

To create, implement and maintain system design elements, tools and workflows for dedicated level design team.

Duties

  • Assigns, delegates, and supports individuals in their tasks, monitoring and reviewing the progress of their work.
  • Provides constructive feedback and clear communications to enhance mission gameplay in levels, ease integration workload, ensuring a continuous improvement approach.
  • Takes responsibility for evaluating their direct reports during periodic performance reviews, providing valuable insights and assessments toward their career development.
  • Fosters an engaging atmosphere within their team, as well as ensuring a healthy work-life balance by setting clear expectations and scope of work, empowering individuals to propose solutions, and express their opinions. Utilizes data such as pulse checks and satisfaction scores.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with other Leads, Directors, departments and project stakeholders on a continuous basis in order to notably build trust and work toward the project’s objectives and ambitions.
  • Follows the Director’s guidance/vision and implements it. Contributes to the Director’s direction by providing important data, raising issues, seeking advice and relays them to relevant project leaders.
  • Provide mentorship, troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving assistance to members of the level design and tech level design team.
  • Work with production teams on tasks assignment and a team schedule.
  • Provide day-to-day feedback and creatively solve problems.
  • To establish co-operation with Combat and Level Designers and maintain standards of Level design documentation.
  • Is accountable for making sure the Level Design team can efficiently maintain a balance between the creative vision for the project and the technical budget restraints provided by the Technical Director by acting as a technical reference for the team in relation to level design.
  • Proactively identify cross-discipline challenges and risks to the project and offer solutions.
  • Manage or supervise work of established Strike Teams.
  • Supervision of bugfixing and describing case studies in the knowledge base.
  • Conduct recruitment projects with HR collaboration.
  • Set up onboarding standards in co-operation with Combat and Level Design leads.
  • Occasionally can take part in onboarding new hires.

Collaboration within the studio: Production, Art, Environment Art, Meshers, Programmers, Design (Game/Combat/Tech), QA, HR

Qualifications

Experience

  • Typically 7+ years including prior experience in any leadership capacity.
  • Typically at least 2 successfully shipped AAA games on PC or console.

Must-have Qualifications

  • Strong Leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Great understanding of creative and game development processes.
