Aptiv is seeking an SMT Expert to join their Manufacturing Engineering EMEA team. This role involves defining production systems, logistics flows, and industrial investments for programs, focusing on handling, assembly, inspection, and packaging of PCBs and enclosures. The expert will participate in innovation, costing, product development, and series production phases, ensuring compliance with schedules, standards, and continuous improvement.
Must have:
  • Define production system and logistics flows
  • Define industrial investments required for the program
  • Handle and distribute incoming components
  • Manage assembly, inspection operations, and packaging (PCBs, low/high-voltage enclosures)
  • Participate in new business reviews (RFI/RFQ phases, product modifications, capacity increase requests)
  • Participate in Product Design reviews with the Product Engineering team
  • Complete feasibility studies with costings and initiate risk analyses
  • Investigate and document new manufacturing technologies for Aptiv CS
  • Optimize logistics, packaging, manufacturing, labor, and investment costs
  • Present and ensure compliance with the industrialization schedule
  • Define the assembly synopsis and manufacturing processes
  • Establish the FMEA Process and draft specific Specifications
  • Manage consultations with external suppliers
  • Manage the launch of production of the first parts, product/process development phases, and representative tests
  • Issue provisional acceptances Equipment, in accordance with the Qualification process
  • Ensure the issuance of documents and compliance with APTIV standards and procedures
  • Qualify equipment according to APTIV standards, on-site
  • Monitor capacity analyses with the Production team
  • Collect and incorporate production feedback
  • Share information with colleagues from other continents, analyze solutions, conduct benchmark operations
  • Bac+5 / Engineering degree in a technical education (or equivalent)
  • Experience on SMT area/automotive industry (> 5 years)
  • Experienced in manufacturing engineering (process development, process FMEA, suppliers follow-up)
  • Knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT) process
  • Good mechanical background, able to build assembly process
  • Able to solve quality problem, to highlight key parameters, to improve through testing plans
  • Good English skills
  • Problem Solving and data interpretation/analysis abilities

Position Summary:

We are seeking an SMT Expert to join our dynamic Manufacturing Engineering EMEA. You will be responsible for defining the production system and logistics flows, as well as the industrial investments required for the program. The scope will include handling and distribution of incoming components, assembly, inspection operations, and packaging (primarily for PCBs and low-voltage/high-voltage enclosures).

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced production environment.

Your Role

Innovation and costing phases

  • Participate in new business reviews (RFI/RFQ phases, product modifications, capacity increase requests, etc.) & kick-offs with Sales/Costing.
  • Participate in Product Design reviews with the Product Engineering team, identifying opportunities (component carry-over, equipment reuse, etc.).
  • Complete feasibility studies with costings (mainly for assembly/inspection/traceability/packaging operations), initiate risk analyses.
  • Investigate and document new manufacturing technologies for Aptiv CS (at the request of the PE teams or not).
  • Optimize logistics, packaging, manufacturing, labor, and investment costs.

The product development & manufacturing process phase

  • Present the industrialization schedule in line with the full program schedule and ensure compliance with this schedule until the end of the project
  • Define the assembly synopsis and manufacturing processes
  • Establish the FMEA Process and then draft the specific Specifications, with experts, based on the results of the Process FMEA
  • Manage consultations with external suppliers, in accordance with the Purchasing policy
  • Manage the launch of production of the first parts, the product/process development phases, and representative tests for future series production (EPC = Full-Speed ​​Test or JPC = Full-Speed ​​Day)
  • Issue provisional acceptances Equipment, in accordance with the Qualification process
  • Ensures the issuance of documents and compliance with APTIV standards and procedures
  • Qualifies equipment according to APTIV standards, on-site

Series production phase

  • Monitors capacity analyses with the Production team
  • Collects and incorporates production feedback (equipment reliability, technical choices, ownership costs, development time, etc.) by participating in the creation of PE Guidelines (product design guide) and ME Standards (tool & equipment specifications).
  • Shares information with colleagues from other continents , analyzes solutions implemented at other sites, conducts benchmark operations (other industries), participates in industrial trade shows, etc.

Your Background

  • Bac+5 / Engineering degree in a technical education (or equivalent)
  • Experience on SMT area/automotive industry (> 5 years);
  • Experienced in manufacturing engineering (process development, process FMEA, suppliers follow-up, …)
  • Knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT) process;
  • Good mechanical background, able to build assembly process (manual or semi-auto, for fuses, busbars, plastic housings, … )
  • Able to solve quality problem, to highlight key parameters, to improve through testing plans
  • Proactive and dynamic personality with good communication and teamwork skills;
  • Good English skills
  • Problem Solving and data interpretation/analysis abilities;
