Job Description

The Snowcat Operator Basic is responsible for the safe operation of a snowcat to create quality snow surfaces for skiing and riding to support day-to-day mountain operations and special events. This role involves grooming terrain, maintaining consistent grooming standards with clean lines and minimal pattern discrepancies, and performing effectively even at night on uneven terrain and in adverse weather. Additionally, the operator will conduct general maintenance of snowcats and report any issues to mechanics. The position requires passing ASC and Colorado snowmobile tests if necessary and performing other assigned duties. Aspen Skiing Company, with roots dating back to 1946, operates four mountains and emphasizes the coexistence of resort, community, and environment.
Must have:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver's license

  • Experience operating heavy equipment on uneven terrain and at night

Summary

Essential Job Functions

  • Groom terrain for skiing and riding
  • Responsible for consistent grooming, creating clean lines on the slopes and effectively cleaning up pattern discrepancies that result in crooked lines and/or turn marks
  • Ability to maintain grooming standards including at night on uneven terrain and in adverse weather conditions
  • Perform general maintenance of the snowcats and informs mechanics of any issues
  • Must pass ASC and Colorado snowmobile test (as required)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience operating heavy equipment including on uneven terrain and at night preferred
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver’s license required

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate, follow oral and written directions in English
  • Ability to ski or ride at an intermediate level preferred
  • Ability to work in collaboration with others to achieve team goals  
  • Ability to remain focused, organized, flexible, and detail-oriented
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working 

Additional Information

Work environment and physical demands

Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time  

Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces 

Must be able to frequency lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
