The New York Times is seeking a Social Media Graphic Designer (Temporary) for its Marketing team. This hybrid role in New York City involves developing and producing visual content for marketing-led Instagram and TikTok platforms, specifically for @mynytimes and @nytgames. The designer will create compelling graphics, animations, and design templates, translating complex ideas into visual content aligned with brand guidelines and marketing strategies. The role requires collaboration with editors, producers, and video leads, and contributing to creative brainstorming for monthly planning cycles.
Must have:
  • Develop and produce visual content for Instagram and TikTok platforms.

  • Translate complex ideas into visual content aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Design and produce still and motion assets for social platforms.
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming, pitching, and prototyping content ideas.
  • 5+ years of experience in social-first design within a brand or agency setting.
  • 5+ years experience in advanced software proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • 2+ years experience using Canva and other new social media tools.
  • Experience with motion design or animation.
  • Understanding of social platforms and authentic brand participation.
  • Portfolio examples of past social video work for social media.

This is a Hybrid role based in New York City with an In office requirement of 2-3 times a week. You will report to the Director, Social and Influencer Creative.

Responsibilities:

  • You will contribute within our in-house creative team by developing and producing visual content for our marketing-led Instagram and TikTok platforms. You will imagine new ways to tell stories that bring our desired messages to life. You will focus on our brand marketing social accounts, @mynytimes and @nytgames.
  • You will make social content compelling, create graphics, animations and design templates enhancing our posts and campaigns. You will translate complex ideas into visual content aligned with brand guidelines and marketing strategies.
  • You will design and produce still and motion assets for social platforms and develop design approaches and templates for recurring content series and brand storytelling. Collaborate with editors, producers, and videos lead to implement marketing campaigns. You will maintain consistency and uphold brand guidelines. You will develop a design approach to visual storytelling.
  • You will contribute to creative brainstorming, pitching and prototyping content ideas for monthly planning cycles. Present concepts and rationale, explaining design decisions to the team and partners.
  • You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence

and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in social-first design within a brand or agency setting.
  • 5+ years experience in advanced software proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, employing efficient file management and workflow practices.
  • 2+ years experience using Canva and other new social media tools and experience with motion design or animation, you will design still and motion assets. An understanding of social platforms, and how brands should participate in an authentic way.
  • Portfolio examples of past social video work for social media that shows platform fluency.
