Job Summary
ByteDance seeks a Software Development Engineer to design and develop distributed NoSQL databases. Responsibilities include building high-performance, low-latency, and highly available systems; optimizing compute and storage engines for cloud-native deployments; providing technical guidance; collaborating with cross-functional teams; and addressing technical challenges in cloud service architectures. The focus areas include distributed caches, key-value stores, document databases, graph databases, wide-column stores, search engines, or multi-model databases. The role requires proficiency in programming languages (C, C++, Java, Go, Python, Rust), deep understanding of database principles, distributed system design, and experience with large-scale cloud-native architectures.
Must Have
- Proficiency in C, C++, Java, Go, Python, or Rust
- Deep understanding of database principles
- Distributed system design expertise
- Experience in distributed storage and computing
- Knowledge of distributed consensus algorithms
- Performance tuning and system optimization skills
Good to Have
- Familiarity with RocksDB, Redis, MongoDB, HBase, TiDB, Neo4j, Elasticsearch, JanusGraph, YugabyteDB, or CockroachDB
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science or related field

Job Description
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $137750 - $237500 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location.
