Job Summary

As a Software Engineer, you thrive on working with your team to design, build and deliver innovative software products and solutions that delight our customers. You apply software engineering knowledge in software application layer solutions and the software development lifecycle, to solve problems. Your continuous learning and improvement mindset are critical to success in this role, as you continue to deepen your knowledge and expertise in the Software Engineering Domain. You will work with solution engineers and work towards practical implementation, understand business domain thoroughly, and design, develop and deploy business functionality in a microservices architecture.

Must Have

  • Create APIs from scratch and/or update existing APIs as per requirements.
  • Create/maintain interface documentations (e.g., Swagger spec, confluence links).
  • Develop solutions that are resilient, self-healing and Cloud Native.
  • Be an active participant of team as DevOps with full accountability of CI/CD, test automation, support and monitoring functions.
  • Develop own and peers’ skills to build T-shaped team.
  • Identify and drive capability unit cost reduction opportunities.
  • Think of securing APIs as a design principle.
  • Ensure APIs conform to Telstra’s engineering standards (ZERO security vulnerabilities, Sonar Quality gates, Coverity scans).
  • Be an active observer for opportunities that can improve cycle time, API performance.
  • Comply with all relevant processes and standards.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering skills in Java springboot.
  • Experience with integration design patterns such as SOA, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working with multiple integration technologies such as REST, SOAP, ETL and APIs.
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Web Service and API standards, Swagger Specs and design principles.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining systems integration documentation (Interface Specs and Functional Specs).
  • Strong understanding of AWS or any cloud-based core components (EC2, ECR, Lambdas, Kinesis, Code Pipelines, Code Deploy, etc).
  • Experienced in Version control systems (Git, Github, bitbucket).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multi-tiered applications in enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated solid knowledge of SDLC and Agile practices.
  • Experience in development and/or design and support of APIs.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Good to Have

  • Experience with use of API testing tools (e.g., Postman, JMeter, SoapUi).
  • CICD (Bamboo/Jenkins/Shell scripting/Python).
  • Security vulnerabilities (detecting & resolving - Coverity, Veracode).
  • Exposure to API Managers (APIGEE, WSO2, Kong, etc).
  • Container management systems (Docker, Kubernetes, etc).
  • AWS IAM, EC2, ECR, S3, Lambdas, Cloudwatch, Kinesis Streams, Code pipeline, etc.
  • AWS API gateway.
  • API Security knowledge - Basic Auth/ Oauth.
  • SSL handshake methodologies and MASSL setup.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand business domain thoroughly. Design, develop and deploy business functionality in the microservices architecture.
  • Has strong interest in exploring new ways of doing things with the latest tools and technologies.
  • Create APIs from scratch and/or update existing APIs as per requirements.
  • Create/maintain interface documentations e.g. Swagger spec, confluence links for solution briefs, Interface Specs, API functional Specs, backstage configs, etc.
  • Develop solutions that are resilient, self-healing and Cloud Native.
  • Be a active participant of team as DevOps with full accountability of CI/CD, test automation, support and monitoring functions within a team.
  • Develop own and peers’ skills to build T-shaped team.
  • Identify and drive capability unit cost reduction opportunities through simplification, rationalisation and smart application of new technology.
  • Think of securing APIs as a design principle while building these APIs.
  • Ensure the APIs that are built, conform to Telstra’s engineering standards (ZERO security vulnerabilities, Sonar Quality gates, Coverity scans, etc)
  • Be an active observer for opportunities that can improve the cycle time, API performance, and other aspects of the API lifecycle.
  • Has a strong interest in exploring new ways of doing things with the latest tools and technologies.
  • As part of a fully DevOps team, we promote a culture of writing, testing, deploying, observing, maintaining code, and owning the code end to end.
  • Ensure resiliency is baked in the design of the solution we propose.
  • CICD is part of the developer’s responsibility, and we take pride in excelling it.
  • Should be well versed with the latest tools stack to start leveraging these to draw insights from it.
  • Complying with all relevant processes and standards, including change management principles and processes to ensure deliverables meet or exceed defined quality standards.

About you:

To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering skills in Java springboot.
  • Experience with integration design patterns such as SOA, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working with multiple integration technologies such as REST, SOAP, ETL and APIs
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Web Service and API standards, Swagger Specs and design principles.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining systems integration documentation (Interface Specs and Functional Specs)
