Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company, offering unique experiences and opportunities in television, radio, digital, and publishing. The Video Technology Team at Nine Digital builds the next generation of online TV. The Mobile Apps Team focuses on developing Nine’s Android and iOS applications using React Native. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining cross-platform mobile apps, collaborating with teams, writing clean code, debugging, integrating APIs, and performing thorough testing. The role requires strong technical knowledge in JavaScript frameworks, React.js, TypeScript, OO/functional design, RESTful services, defensive coding, agile methodologies, TDD, and CI/test automation.
Must have:
  • Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and backend developers.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code following best practices.
  • Debug and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and libraries.
  • Perform thorough testing of mobile applications.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of JavaScript frameworks, React.js and TypeScript.
  • Strong grasp of OO/functional design, refactoring.
  • Understanding of service-oriented architecture and RESTful web services.
  • Sound knowledge of defensive coding practices.
  • Understanding of working in agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) and test automation.
Good to have:
  • React Native
  • Android and iOS development (Swift or Kotlin)
  • Experience working in agile (kanban or scrum)

Job Description

The Video Technology Team at Nine Digital are a high-performing group of developers, designers, and product managers building the next generation of online TV in Australia. Our users are passionate about TV, and we’re passionate about creating new ways for them to connect and engage with their favourite Channel Nine shows. The Mobile Apps Team is an agile software development team with the core responsibility of building out Nine’s applications for Android and iOS mobiles.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and backend developers to translate requirements into functional and intuitive mobile applications.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code following best practices, including component reusability and state management.
  • Debug and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues in the application.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and libraries, ensuring seamless functionality and user experience.
  • Perform thorough testing of mobile applications, including unit testing, integration testing, and debugging across various devices and platforms.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to project standards.

Qualifications

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of JavaScript frameworks, React.js and TypeScript.
  • Strong grasp of OO/functional design, refactoring and similar techniques to create modular, testable and maintainable solutions.
  • Understanding of service-oriented architecture and RESTful web services.
  • Sound knowledge of defensive coding practices to address common security vulnerabilities.
  • Understanding of working in agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) and test automation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Desirable experience and skills

  • React Native

  • Experience working in agile (kanban or scrum)
