Job Summary
This Software Engineer Sr role is crucial for the Ground Missile Defense (GMD) program, a core component of the Missile Defense System. Responsibilities include developing and supporting the GMD Weapon System (GWS) software, implementing updates, and collaborating within an agile scrum team. The engineer will design, develop, test, and debug applications, ensuring software standards are met and applying systems thinking for scalable and maintainable products. The position requires strong technical principles and effective communication in a fast-paced environment.
Must Have
- Software development and support for Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) Ground-Based Mid-course Defense (GMD) program
- Developing and implementing software updates for new and existing features
- Collaborating with team members in a cross-functional agile scrum team
- Designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging applications software and systems
- Ensuring software standards are met
- Thorough understanding and wide application of software development technical principles, theories, and concepts
- Supporting advanced portions of the software development lifecycle (requirements definition, integration, deployment)
- Prioritizing and adjusting tasks with limited oversight and direction
- Applying 'systems thinking' to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs
- Communicating openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
- Ability to acquire a DOD 8570 IAT Level II certification within 60 days (e.g., Security + CE)
- Experience developing object-oriented software in C++, Java, Python
- Experience with CI/CD best practices, automated builds and tests, quality gates, software quality, and CI tools and pipelines
- Familiarity with security coding standard best practices, static and dynamic scanning tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity)
- Recent experience working with cloud technologies and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud)
- US Citizenship with an active DoD Secret clearance

- Prior experience working on Missile Defense programs
- Prior experience using DOORS
- Prior experience using Atlassian Tools
- Familiarity with Agile terminology and best practices
- Prior experience as a Product Owner
- Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Cameo

Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.
The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.
The Work
The Software Engineer Sr responsibilities include software development and support of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) Ground-Based Mid-course Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross-functional agile scrum team.
General activities :
- Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions with ingenuity and creativity.
- Collaborates with other software and systems engineers to determine computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems with program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions.
- Ensure software standards are met.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding and wide application of software development related technical principles, theories, and concepts. Show general knowledge of other related disciplines.

Basic Qualifications:

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
