Job Summary
This role is for a Systems Engineer Staff within the Ground Missile Defense (GMD) program, focusing on the GMD Weapon System (GWS). Responsibilities include software development and support for the Missile Defense Agency, implementing system updates, and collaborating in an agile scrum team. The candidate will also perform Agile Product Owner duties for the GWS GFC Threat State Algorithms and Analysis team, ensuring features meet closure criteria and leading technical tasks for algorithmic development and evaluation in tactical products.
Must Have
- U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance (with the ability to acquire and maintain a TS level clearance)
- 8 Years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline; 6 Years with Master’s degree; 4 Years with PhD.
- Recent experience in data analysis, performance analysis, or physics/mathematics-based algorithm development
- General understanding of algorithm domains: track processing, track reporting, discrimination, propagation, and 6d covariance propagation/ prediction
- High proficiency in technical problem solving and integrating solutions into a larger system
- Knowledge of MATLAB, Python or similar engineering tools for prototyping algorithms
- Experience reading and understanding the Ada programming language
- Extensive background in Ballistic Missile Defense, midcourse missile defense, battle management, threat state processing, weapon target assignment

- Current/Active Top Secret Clearance
- Recent experience applying advanced mathematical concepts (Numerical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Probability/Statistics) to complex problems and solutions
- Recent and extensive experience developing analysis tools in MATLAB and PYTHON
- High comfort level with the ADA programming language
- Successful performance of root cause analysis of large complex software systems
- High Comfort level using the Atlassian toolset (Jira/Confluence)

What We're Doing
Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.
The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.
The Work
The Systems Engineer Stf responsibilities include software development and support of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) Ground-Based Mid-course Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing system updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross-functional agile scrum team.
The successful candidate will perform most typical Agile Product Owner (PO) responsibilities for the GWS GFC Threat State Algorithms and Analysis team, making sure that developed features and related sprint stories contain the appropriate closure criteria and that they meet those criteria prior to be closed. To fulfill this role, the candidate will lead and perform technical tasks to support the development and evaluation of Algorithmic candidates addressing new capabilities in the tactical product. This engineer/analyst will help ensure algorithmic design has been properly evaluated prior to implementation in the tactical product.
Basic Qualifications:

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
