A Specialist Software Engineer C++ will own medium complexity software components from design, code, review, estimate, and test. This role involves coding and testing sophisticated components with high-level guidance, adhering to SDLC practices, and potentially acting as a scrum master. The engineer will work in a multi-disciplined agile scrum team, analyzing requirements, implementing changes, and ensuring software quality through testing and code analysis. They will also communicate with internal and external collaborators and support CI/CD pipelines.

  • Analyse requirements, embed changes into current design, code, test, and merge components.
  • Assure software quality with unit, component, and end-to-end testing.
  • Work with static and dynamic code analysis tools and follow recommendations.
  • Perform accurate estimates on implementational changes.
  • Follow SDLC practices and standards according to company policies.
  • Communicate clearly on owned components with internal and external collaborators.
  • Work closely with teams to discover problems and opportunities for improvement.

Position Summary

A Specialist Software Engineer C++ should possess the ability to own one or more medium complexity software components from the design (with guidance), code, review, estimate and test perspective. They should be able to perform coding and testing on sophisticated components with high-level guidance. Specialist Engineer should be thorough with SDLC practices and encouraged to play at least an acting scrum-master role if needed. They should possess thorough understanding of build and release procedures, processes, and tools. Specialist engineers are expected to connect with internal collaborators on the specific areas that they own the responsibility for at operational level

Role Responsibilities

  • Work as a contributing member in a multi-disciplined agile scrum team as a senior C++ engineer with the specialized ownership of one or more technical or functional modules
  • Analyse the requirements, embed the changes into the current design with guidance, code, test and merge the components/ tools/ libraries with the highest standards. This is applicable for both functional and non-functional aspects
  • Assure the quality of software being developed with adequate level of unit, component and end-to-end testing where applicable. A very good knowledge in working with static and dynamic code analysis tools and follow the recommendations
  • Ability to perform accurate estimates on implementational changes on the responsible areas
  • Follow the SDLC practices and standards according to the company policies and guidelines
  • Ability to shadow certain Tech lead tasks as the need arises at least short periods (example – Scrum master role, Architecture Owner role)
  • Communicate clearly on the components that the individual owns with both internal and external collaborators
  • Work closely with these teams to discover problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to configure and automate and maintain continues integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines to support software integration and deployment (with mentorship)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Expected to be a great teammate
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in software industry including hands on software development with C++.
  • Good knowledge and experience on STL, Boost.
  • Hands-on experience in debug tools such as GDB.
  • Experience in Linux based systems, CMake, Conan or similar build/package management tools is an added advantage
  • Experience in Java, Python or a scripting language would be beneficial
