This role involves participating in the design, development, and implementation of systems engineering activities, with an initial focus on PostgreSQL implementation. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and administering PostgreSQL in a Linux environment, building integration scripting, maintaining documentation, and acting as a subject matter expert for related technologies. The role also involves developing automation scripts, providing configuration documentation, and engaging in incident triage and problem management investigations. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of production engineering/operations experience in a large enterprise.

Must Have

• Install, configure, and administer PostgreSQL in a Linux environment.

Responsible for components of complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities. Assists in establishment of input/output processes and working parameters for hardware compatibility and coordination of subsystems design and integration of total system. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource; provides tech knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor. Initial assignment will be implementation of PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and administer PostgreSQL, including dependencies, in a Linux environment, in a highly available, clustered configuration.
• Build and maintain scripting/tooling/configuration to integrate PostgreSQL with internal auth and logging services.
• Maintain documentation, scripting and/or tooling supporting environment synchronization.
• Act as a consultant on a range of related technologies in a subject matter expert role.
• Develop software or system scripts to simplify or eliminate the dependence on human intervention for recurring tasks.
• Provide documentation to support configuration processes and procedures.
• Engage as a subject matter expert (SME) in Incident triage efforts, failure scenario modelling and work with Problem Manager to diagnose root causes for incident / problem management investigations.
• Work with Production Support teams to perform knowledge transfer, playbook updates and training for new monitoring capabilities.

Mandatory Skills

• Production engineering/operations experience (minimum 5-7 years)
• Experience in supporting infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.
• Strong experience as a Linux Systems Admin/Engineer with the ability to troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis
• PostgreSQL installation, configuration, and administration in a multi-datacenter environment
• Strong data in terms of schema design (tables, indexes, 3rd normal form, denormalization to optimize for performance, etc.)
• Experience working in a DevOps and CI/CD environment.
• Understanding of load balancing, clustering, and other “never down” strategies and techniques
• Good understanding of various protocols such as http/tcp/smtp/snmp/dns
• Good verbal and written communication skills
