The Sr. District Sales Manager will lead, inspire, control, organize, and direct both the tactical and strategic activities of the district. Responsibilities include ownership of district revenue and forecasting, ensuring sales staff meet forecasts, developing and implementing district business plans, recruiting, developing, and managing the sales team, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The role requires a strong understanding of the genomics landscape and the ability to communicate effectively. The manager will also be responsible for establishing quotas and monitoring expenses. The role also requires a high level of liaison with other departments and the sales team to ensure coordination of activities and understanding of common goals. The position involves managing the performance of the district sales team and ensuring adherence to company values.

Position Summary:

Leads, inspires, controls, organizes and directs both the tactical and strategic activities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and responsibility of the district revenue and forecasting.

  • Routinely and accurately forecast customer demand (i.e., product quantities and dollars, orders, shipments).

  • Ensure that sales staff achieves their forecasts, follows company guidelines/practices/policies, and provide timely development plans to correct for underperformance.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all documentation tools (ie Salesforce.com) is completely utilized, updated, and compliant with company policies and practices.

  • Develop, implement and monitor of the district business plan to meet assigned budget.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, retention and management of the district sales team.

  • Responsible for the direction, support and motivation of the district sales team to meet agreed targets and objectives.

  • Responsible for ensuring that Illumina’s commitment to customer satisfaction is performed, delivered, and constantly improved.

  • Coordinate and/or supervise technical/sales/administrative training for the district sales team. · Ensure that Illumina’s values are followed by all staff.

  • Monitor, assist, set standards, and evaluate the district sales team performance utilizing Illumina’s performance management tools.

  • Establish territory quotas and achieve the quarterly and annual sales and profit plan as assigned.

  • Routinely forecast, monitor, and control selling and other expenses for the district within assigned expense budgets.

  • To ensure a high level of liaison with other departments (e.g., Marketing, Customer Solutions) and local sales team & staff to ensure coordination of activities and understanding of common goals.

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of 12+ years of sales experience in the Life Science industry.

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of sales management experience in the Life Science industry.

  • A solid understanding of genetics and genomics.

  • Strong competency in working in a matrixed environment.

  • Capital sales experience

  • Must be able to engage at a high level.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence internal and external audiences, using both oral and written communication skills

  • Strong knowledge of the local genomics landscape

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Requires Bachelor's, may require an advanced degree (Master's), in applicable field or equivalent.

  • Typically has 12+ years of direct work experience, with 3-6 years of Management experience.

  • Managers at this level may become involved in elevated issues arising from daily activities.

  • Applies broad management, functional expertise/knowledge to subordinates managers and staff members.

  • Will have developed key relationships with important customers and suppliers.

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. District Sales Manager role based in the United States of America is: $152,600 - $228,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
