The Sr. Manager, Data Science role involves leading a team of analysts within North American Data Science, overseeing projects, providing coaching, and facilitating professional development. The role includes collaborating with internal and external clients to comprehend their strategic business questions, designing projects to leverage Visa's data for solutions. Responsibilities include developing predictive models, engaging clients in strategic discussions, and producing insights to enhance client performance across the payment P&L. The ideal candidate should have experience in payments and management consulting. The candidate should also have broad knowledge across the entire data science lifecycle. This position is hybrid, with the office days determined by the hiring manager.
Must have:
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience leading data science teams in machine learning projects
  • Expertise with modern distributed systems (Hadoop/SQL, Apache Spark)
  • Expertise in data analytics/programming tools like Python
  • Expertise in predictive modeling and machine learning techniques
Good to have:
  • 3+ years in payments industry or management-consulting firm
  • Knowledge of software development, MLOps or data product development
  • Excellent communication, storytelling and presentation skills
  • Competence in Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau

Job Description

To ensure that Visa's payment technology is truly available to everyone, everywhere requires the success of our key bank or merchant partners and internal business units. The Global Data Science group supports these partners by using our extraordinarily rich data set that spans more than 3 billion cards globally and captures more than 100 billion transactions in a single year. Our focus lies on building creative solutions that have an immediate impact on the business of our highly analytical partners. We work in complementary teams comprising members from Data Science and various groups at Visa. To support our rapidly growing group we are looking for Data Scientists who are equally passionate about the opportunity to use Visa's rich data to tackle meaningful business problems.

Essential Functions

  • Lead a team of analysts within North American Data Science, including project oversight, coaching and professional development

  • Work with internal/external clients to understand their strategic business questions and lead project scoping/design to answer those questions by leveraging Visa's data

  • Develop propensity, segmentation and other predictive models to drive business impact

  • Proactively engage with clients and Visa client leadership in regular strategic & planning discussions, cultivate and manage a pipeline of work with clients

  • Develop frameworks, approaches, solutions and recommendations that effectively and efficiently address the most impactful opportunities and challenges.

  • Produce insights and analyses to improve client performance, drive understanding of client issues and provide strategic guidance for client priorities across the payment P&L

  • Ideal candidate will have payments and management consulting experience.

  • Broad knowledge across the entire data science lifecycle, including data engineering, statistics and governance

  • Provide guidance in modern analytic techniques and business applications to unlock the value of Visa's unique data set, in keeping with market trends, client needs and emerging techniques

  • Organize and manage multiple data science projects with diverse cross-functional stakeholders

  • Ability to influence and negotiate with senior executives

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Experience leading teams of data scientists in machine learning projects
  • Hands-on expertise with modern distributed systems, including both Hadoop/SQL and Apache Spark
  • Hands-on expertise with one or more data analytics/programming tools such as Python
  • Hands-on expertise in the application of predictive modeling and machine learning techniques


Preferred Qualifications

  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
  • 3+ years of working in payments industry (bank, credit union, Fintech) or management-consulting firm
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development, MLOps or data product development
  • Excellent communication, story-telling and presentation skills.
  • Competence in Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 148,300.00 to 215,250.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
