This role is for a Sr. Photonics Engineer, focusing on collaborating with industry partners and internal teams to establish advanced photonics technology for next-generation optical interconnect. The individual will support and lead programs in the design, development, and application of Si photonics technology for photonics interconnect in hyperscale and AI computing, ensuring practical manufacturability and system performance.
Must have:
  • Understand advanced Si photonics technology and laser devices.
  • Collaborate with design teams for PIC integration with components.
  • Develop new photonics features in custom opto-electronic hardware.
  • Test, improve procedures, and analyze data for device performance and yield.
  • Work with laser, package, photonic, and electronic circuit teams.
  • Define photonics interconnect needs for hyperscale, AI computing, and network systems.
  • PhD in Engineering, Physics, Photonics or related field.
  • 5-10 years industry experience in optoelectronics component design/development.
  • At least 3 years industry experience with Si photonics.
  • Lead Si photonics PIC solutions development.
  • Expertise with photonic design tools: Lumerical, Tidy3D, COMSOL, RSoft.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Experience with tape out using Global Foundry, Tower Jazz, or other silicon photonics fabs.
  • Strong knowledge of high speed optoelectronics device design.
  • Good knowledge of CMOS semiconductor process.
  • Good knowledge of semiconductor wafer backend and package ecosystem.
  • Good knowledge of EDA or EPDA tools for PIC design, simulation, and tape out.

We are looking for a Sr Photonics Engineer with a focus on collaborating with the industry’s design and foundry partners, and internal design stake owners to establish advanced photonics technology capabilities for next generation optical interconnect. This individual should be

interested in supporting and leading programs devoted to the design, development, and applications of Si photonics technology for photonics interconnect in application of hyperscale and AI computing. This person will apply strong understanding of photonics principles and knowledge on integrating devices into a PIC considering system requirements that include both to meet application performance and also to enable practically manufacturable optical module production.

Responsibilities

  • Expert level understanding of advanced Si photonics technology, devices such as laser,

to explore innovation of new optical devices

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure the PIC design is well considered and validated to integrate with other critical components, in optical mechanical and module fabrication processes, in hardware circuit and controls etc..
  • Bring up new photonics features in custom opto-electronic hardware
  • Perform tests, improve test procedures and analyze data to enable improvements in device performance and product yield
  • Work closely with teams developing laser, package, photonic, and electronic circuits to ensure product success
  • Work with system architecture to define photonics interconnect need for hyperscale,

AI computing, and network switching / routing system.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Photonics or related technical field
  • 5-10 years of industry experience in designing or managing optoelectronics component design and development
  • At least 3 years of industry experience with Si photonics
  • Experienced in leading the development of Si photonics PIC solutions
  • Expertise with photonic design tools, such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, COMSOL, RSoft.
  • Need to have hands on experience on using cadence virtuoso. Should have done tape out with the like of Global Foundry, Tower Jazz or other silicon photonics fab.
  • Strong knowledge on high speed optoelectronics device design

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
