This role will involve planning and managing the execution of SAS and NVMe SSD qualification on customer systems, including enterprise servers and enterprise storage systems. You will work directly with customers to provide an excellent customer experience by assisting and managing the highest quality expectations. Responsibilities include researching customer product portfolios, understanding use case and access patterns, coordinating with internal and customer test engineers, triaging test failures and defects, designing and executing experiments, providing feedback to functional test teams, contributing to triaging customer field issues, identifying automation opportunities, and helping the Automation team to improve and add to the existing framework. You will also be involved in communicating with team lead to understand qualification processes and test plans, reporting status of qualifications, and managing customer expectations.
Must have:
  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 10+ years of system level testing or development of enterprise servers and enterprise storage systems experience
  • Proficiency in server operating systems
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage/server system technologies
  • Expertise in storage test tools
  • Experience with at least 1 storage protocol like NVMe or SAS
Good to have:
  • MS with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with Python or any scripting experience
  • Knowledge of system debug tools

What You’ll Do

The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) Our core development focus is the host interface firmware layer that sits in the intersection of system software and flash management firmware. This key host interface firmware technology drives Samsung’s breakthrough V-NAND technology and enables our customers to power performance-oriented, demanding, enterprise-class applications ranging from hyper-scale data centers, to big data processing, to software defined virtualized storage arrays and infrastructures.

We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable SSD Test Engineer in the Enterprise SSD division at Samsung. This role will have the opportunity to plan and manage execution of SAS and NVMe SSD qualification on customer systems that include enterprise servers and enterprise storage systems including Hyper-converged, SAN, NAS, Unified and Scale out systems.  In this role you will work directly with customers to provide an excellent customer experience by assisting and managing the highest quality expectations.  You will research customer product portfolios and understand use case and access patterns as they apply to SSDs in these systems.

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

  • Execution of enterprise SSD qualifications in customer systems.
  • Communicate with team lead to understand qualification processes and test plans. Report status of qualifications and manage customer expectations.
  • Coordinate with internal team and customer test engineers to execute qual plans as per schedule. Teams will be both local and remote.
  • Triage test failures and do a first level FA. Design and execute experiments to root cause defects and verify fixes in coordination with development teams.
  • Provide feedback to functional test teams on issues seen in customer quals to better functional test coverage.
  • Contribute in Triaging customer field issues and provide support for timely resolution of customer issues.
  • Identify automation opportunities and help Automation team to continue to improve and add to the existing framework.
  • Some experience in Python or any scripting experience (able to modify script as needed) 

What You Bring

  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field with 10+ years of system level testing or development of enterprise servers and enterprise storage systems experience or MS with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • Proficiency in server operating systems especially system debug tools such as system logs.
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage/server system technologies.
  • Expertise in storage test tools such as performance benchmarks, IO stress tools, protocol certifications, Test execution and bug management tools.
  • Experience with at least 1 storage protocol like NVMe or SAS.

Base Pay Range

$153,075 - $236,925 USD
