This Staff Equipment Engineer position is for an in-house technical expert passionate about analyzing and resolving complex engineering problems using advanced critical and analytical thinking. The role involves guiding and mentoring others, communicating engineering concepts, and providing technical expertise across equipment functions. Responsibilities include optimizing equipment, driving continuous improvement, leading incident investigations, and developing team skills, all while ensuring compliance with cGMP, Quality, and safety standards.
Must have:
  • Execute tasks following cGMP, Quality, Safety, and Work instructions.
  • Provide technical expertise for equipment repair, restoration, and optimization.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in production.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Mentor team members in technical and reporting skills.
  • Make complex decisions using structured processes and multiple data sources.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, Quality, and work safety practices.
  • Ability to identify different colors for work purposes.
  • Meticulous, organized, with keen attention to detail.
Good to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Equipment Engineering & Maintenance
  • Experience in equipment troubleshooting and preventive planning
  • Experience in engineering methods for equipment controls and OEE improvement
  • Knowledge on digitalization of machine data
  • Experience in GMP, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 working environment

Job Details

Position Summary

This position carries the responsibility of the in-house technical expert. The ideal candidate should possess a deep passion for analyzing and resolving multi-faceted engineering problems and be able to apply advanced critical and analytical thinking skills to deal with immediate situations. This role should adopt a developmental and amiable approach in guiding and mentoring others and must also be able to communicate engineering concepts in a manner that will be understood by others within and beyond the team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Complete required training (e.g. cGMP, safety and work instructions, etc.) within a stipulated time frame
  • Execute tasks strictly following cGMP, Quality, Safety and Work instruction requirements
  • Ensure safety, quality requirement, and all applicable company policies are followed at all time
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and maintain cleanliness (6S) of the working area
  • Able to take on additional tasks or responsibilities when required
  • Provide technical expertise and business operations perspectives across different equipment functions
  • Provide technical expertise to guide the development of solutions to repair, restore and optimize equipment and systems functionality across different equipment sections
  • Able to promote team support and coach team members towards continuous improvement
  • Ability to make decision in a complex setting to achieve intended goals using structured process and multiple sources of available information
  • Able to connect and combine ideas or information from unrelated fields or applications to generate multiple ideas to bring about a specific outcome
  • Deeply understand the needs of internal and external customers
  • Provide overall guidance on PM activities and establish PM processes
  • Provide overall guidance on equipment troubleshooting activities and establish equipment troubleshooting processes
  • Able to drive data analytic initiatives by evaluating and reviewing latest technologies and tools

Improvement work:

  • Drive and provide technical guidance to the team on continuous improvement
  • Lead in identifying improvement opportunity and innovation to improve production run rate, yield and product quality

Incident investigation and reporting:

  • Ensure thorough investigation and effective implementation of corrective and preventive measures
  • Mentor team members on good investigation & reporting skills

Learning and Development:

  • Provide technical guidance and project management skill to develop the team
  • Use available software features to enhance documents, analyze and manipulate data and use ICT to organize, share and communicate information clearly and coherently
  • Analyze training gaps and strategize training needs to achieve/exceed work results
  • Be a role model for PMTs and Engineers

  • Must be able to identify different colors for work purposes. In Illumina, we handle components/chemicals with different colors, and it is necessary to be able to differentiate and identify the correct components/chemicals (using visual) during operation.
  • Possess a positive attitude and sense of urgency
  • Meticulous, keen attention to details and organized

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Equipment Engineering & Maintenance
  • Experience in equipment troubleshooting and preventive planning, engineering methods for equipment controls and OEE improvement
  • Knowledge on digitalization of machine data will be an advantage
  • Experience in GMP, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 working environment
  • Will have developed key relationships with important customers and suppliers
