The Senior Project Manager drives and facilitates the successful planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of Technical Consulting projects. This role involves working with clients to ensure appropriate governance based on project scope and offering. As the primary client contact, the Senior Project Manager is the focal point for all communications with the client and the Mainframe Division, including Technical Consulting, Engineering, and Support or Development. Successful project delivery is the key performance metric for this role.
Must have:
  • Drive and facilitate successful planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of Technical Consulting projects.
  • Work with clients to ensure appropriate governance based on scope and offering.
  • Serve as the client’s first line of contact and focal point for all communications.
  • Manage Mainframe and/or Open Systems Software projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate mastery of IT project management using standard Work Breakdown Structures, Project Plans, Risk & Issue Management, Project Governance.
  • Apply PMI or similar project methodologies to projects and programs.
  • Deliver large or complex projects/programs on time and in budget.
  • Manage shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
  • Effectively drive execution and own responsibility for overall success of projects.
  • Make decisions independently and respond to client questions on scope, staffing, invoicing, resource allocations, and staffing requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of related experience required.

Job Details

The Senior Project Manager drives and facilitates the successful planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of Technical Consulting projects. Works with clients to ensure appropriate governance is applied to each project based on the scope and offering. The Senior Project Manager is the client’s first line of contact once a project has started and as such, they are the focal point of all communications to the client and the Mainframe Division, including Technical Consulting, Engineering, and Support or Development. Successful project delivery is the key performance metric for this role.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years project management experience preferably in an IT environment
  • Experience managing Mainframe and/or Open Systems Software projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated mastery of at least 5 years IT project management experience using standard Work Breakdown Structures, Project Plans, Risk & Issue Management, Project Governance, experience applying PMI or similar project methodologies to projects and programs
  • Proven knowledge of Project Management methodologies / preferably has PMP Certification or equivalent experience
  • Proven organizational and planning skills
  • Proven track record of delivering large or complex projects/programs on time and in budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills; works well under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Ability to effectively drive execution and own responsibility for overall success of projects
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Technical proficiency and customer-facing skills
  • Generally works without consulting their manager
  • Ability to make decisions independently and respond to client questions such as scope, staffing, invoicing, resource allocations and staffing requirements
  • Typically has a geographic focus of North America
  • Business travel of up to 25 percent yearly may be required

Experience: Bachelor’s and 8+ years of related experience required

Certification: PMP Certification or equivalent experience is preferred.
