Tools Director

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Tools Director to join the team and help us in crafting the high caliber games our fans have come to expect.


Responsibilities

• Direct and lead a global Tools development team.
• Oversee the vision, design, development, and maintenance of internal tools to enhance productivity and creative workflows.
• Enable team members to independently and rapidly add and iterate ideas and content for our games.
• Define the UX vision for all internal Tools.
• Collaborate closely with Creative teams to understand their needs and incorporate feedback into Tool development.
• Collaborate with the Engine and Gameplay teams to create a unified proprietary engine and tool set.
• Ensure tools are user-friendly, reliable, performant, and scalable.
• Ensure a culture of unit testing, automation testing, and documentation is applied during development.
• Ensure tools meet quality and performance targets.
• Ensure tools support large scale game development, including: release management, version control, production analytics, and asset management. 
• Ensure tools can be released to player-developers for game modding.
• Hire, onboard, mentor and develop the Tools team.
• Safeguard company assets, including source code, artwork, tools, and technical know-how.


Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in a directing or senior leadership role.
• 8+ years of experience in creating and shipping games tools or digital creative tools for a large development team.
• Experience developing tools for large scale high production value games.
• Strong team management, mentoring and coaching abilities.
• Strong understanding of industry standard technology, including C#, C++, Python and WPF.
• Strong understanding of modular software systems.
• Proven experience modernising game development tools and executing on long-term technological plans to a high quality, including UI/UX.
• Proven experience working with DCCs, including: Maya, Houdini, and Wwise.
• Upper-intermediate proficiency in English.
• Passion for making and playing great games.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsabilités

• Mener et diriger une équipe globale de développement d’outils
• Superviser la vision, la conception, le développement et la maintenance d’outils internes pour améliorer la productivité et les processus créatifs
• Permettre aux membres de l’équipe d’ajouter ou d'améliorer rapidement et indépendamment des idées et des contenus pour nos jeux 
• Définir une vision de l’expérience utilisateur pour tous les outils internes
• Travailler en étroite collaboration avec les équipes créatives pour bien comprendre leurs besoins et considérer leurs retours dans le développement d’outils
• Travailler en collaboration avec les équipes Moteur et Gameplay pour créer un moteur et un ensemble d’outils exclusifs
• S’assurer que les outils sont simples d’utilisation, fiables, performants et adaptables
• S’assurer qu’une culture de tests unitaires, de tests d’automation et de rédaction de documentation est appuyée pendant le développement
• S’assurer que les outils atteignent les objectifs de qualité et de performance
• S’assurer que les outils sont adaptés au développement de jeux à grande échelle, y compris : gestion du lancement, contrôle de versions, analyse des données de production, et gestion des ressources 
• S’assurer que les outils peuvent être mis à la disposition des joueurs-développeurs en vue de la création de mods
• Embaucher, accueillir, accompagner et développer l’équipe Outils
• Assurer la protection des ressources de l’entreprise telles que le code source, les illustrations, les outils et le savoir-faire technique



Profil recherché

• Plus de 4 ans d’expérience dans un rôle de direction ou de leadership senior
• Plus de 8 ans d’expérience de création d’outils de jeux ou d’outils numériques créatifs pour une grande équipe de développement
• Une expérience dans le développement d’outils pour des jeux à grand déploiement et de qualité de production supérieure
• Grandes compétences de gestion d’équipe, d’accompagnement et d’encadrement
• Grande compréhension des technologies d’usage dans l’industrie, y compris C#, C++, Python et WPF
• Grande compréhension de l’architecture système modulaire
• Expérience prouvée dans la modernisation d’outils de développement de jeux et dans l’exécution de qualité supérieure d’un plan technologique à long terme, y compris l’interface et l’expérience utilisateur
• Expérience prouvée dans l’utilisation d’outils de création de contenu numérique, dont : Maya, Houdini et Wwise
• Compétence intermédiaire élevée en anglais
• Passion de faire, et de jouer à, des jeux exceptionnels
• Excellentes aptitudes de résolution de problèmes et d’attention aux détails
• Grande capacité à communiquer et à collaborer
